Kyoya had always been drawn in by Tamaki. Of course, he would never tell Tamaki this. So when Haruhi became the center of his world, it was painful for him to accept it. He couldn't help but to act harshly towards her. Not because he hated her, but because he envied her. She was able to be herself, she was able to gain Tamaki's attention so easily. She didn't have to hide. And so, being logical as he was, Kyoya began distancing himself from Tamaki. He threw himself into his father's company. He began drowning in stress and his sleep schedule was basically nonexistent, but he wasnt thinking of Tamaki as much anymore.
One night, as it grew closer to 1 am, Kyoya got a text from the prince himself. He fought himself for a moment before being unable to resist answering.
(Tamaki has Kyoya in his phone as "Shadow king" and Kyoya has Tamaki as "Prince")

Prince: Kyoya, I'm bored :(
Shadow King: Then go to sleep.
Prince: are you okay?
Shadow king: Yes, why wouldn't I be?
Prince: Normally you'd be sleeping by now. You start feeling sick if you don't sleep enough.
Shadow King: I'm feeling fine.
Prince: That's good, dont need you getting sick or I might just die.
Shadow king: I'm sure you'd be fine even if I weren't here.
Prince: NO WAY! I WOULD BE COMPLETELY LOST WITHOUT YOU MOMMY!
Shadow king: Tamaki, go to sleep.
Prince: could I come sleep with you? I think I could sleep better with someone.

Kyoya couldn't help but blush a bit at the things Tamaki would type. He began letting his mind wander to the things he wished would happen. If he could only tell him. But he couldn't. He had known this since he met him. Which is why he didnt understand why it always brought him to tears. He felt the warm droplets begin cascading down his face as he covered his mouth to muffle any sobs that threatened to escape. He dropped his phone and everything else he was doing. He quickly climbed into the corner of his room, balling up and hiding his face in his knees. He set his glasses beside him carefully, letting his body shake and jump slightly as he cried. He wasn't used to feeling such strong emotions, and he had no one to help him through it. He wished desperately that it could be Tamaki that helped him. Tamaki could come in and hug him, stroke his hair, whisper into his ear that it was okay. He wished that it was him that was at the center of Tamaki's world, not Haruhi. He clenched his hands, gripping his pants legs. He tried not to make any noise. He softly called his name to the world, as if he'd answer. "Tamaki..."
"Kyoya...what happened?"
Kyoya's eyes widen as his head shot up, making eye contact with Tamaki. He was here. Right in front of him. His soft lavender eyes shone with concern. He couldn't hold himself back, he flung himself around him, hugging him tightly and gripping the back of his shirt. He burried his tear soaked face into his shoulder, letting more tears fall onto Tamaki's shoulder. Tamaki gently rubbed his back, holding him closer and sliding his slender body into his lap. "Kyoya, did something happen?" Kyoya shook his head. Saying that the shadow king was a bit embarrassed that he was acting so vulnerable was an understatement. But at this point, he desperately needed this. Tamaki gently held him, stroking his hair. He wanted to help, but he had no idea how. So he just did what he could. Tamaki whispered softly, reassuring Kyoya as he gently rubbed circles onto his back. Kyoya slowly calmed down, making him even more embarrassed.
"Are you feeling better Kyoya?" Kyoya carefully nodded, slowly sitting up. "Y-yes...I apologize..." Tamaki smiled, gently cupping his face with one hand. "Don't apologize, you called out to me. Of course I would be here for you." Kyoya blushed, quickly pulling away. Tamaki blushed aswell, pulling his hand back. "S-Sorry, I didnt mean to make you uncomfortable-"
"Tamaki..." Kyoya quickly interrupted. Tamaki gave him his full attention, making Kyoya more nervous. He backed away a bit, making Tamaki move forward. "Tamaki...I-I...I can't stay around you..." Tamaki looked heartbroken. He frowned and moved closer, making Kyoya's heart beat faster. "Why...did I do something?" Kyoya shook his head, his eyes darting between Tamaki's lips and his eyes. "Then why? Please, tell m-mph!" Suddenly, Kyoya had his lips pressed to Tamaki's. Tamaki's eyes widen before carefully fluttering closed.
Kyoya carefully pulled away, his eyes wide before looking away quickly, his hair shading his eyes. "My apologies, I don't know what came over me...You can leave if you'd-" Tamaki grabbed his face gently in both his hands, making him look at him. Kyoya's eyes were watering again, his face red in embarrassment. Tamaki stared into his dark, onyx eyes for a moment before once again kissing him gently. Kyoya let himself go, pushing against Tamaki and deepening the kiss. Tamaki quickly pulled him closer, Kyoya now straddled his hips. The kiss became more passionate the longer it lasted. Finally, they pulled apart for air.
Kyoya looked at Tamaki, panting lightly. "Wh-what about Haruhi...?" Tamaki gently cupped his face, smiling softly. Kyoya, Haruhi is like my little sister. I've loved you for so long, I just didn't think you felt the same." Kyoya's eyes widen. He felt his heart burst. He couldn't believe what he heard. He carefully rested his head on Tamaki's shoulder. "You idiot..." Tamaki chuckled lightly, kissing the top of Kyoya's head.
That night, they curled up together happily and didn't let go.
