"(Y/N)!"
I jumped up in my seat, pieces of papers stuck to the side of my face. My hair was a bit messy and tangled up. I rubbed the side of my face. "Ughh who's there?" I parted my eyes a little. I still had my books on my desk.
"It's us," a voice said. I turned over to look behind me, a few countries were standing there. "Oh h-hey guys," I placed the pieces of paper from the side of my face on the table to make myself look more presentable.
I ran my fingers through my (H/C) hair, neatening it. "What are you guys doing here?" I turn back to my books, it was thick textbooks about medical stuff nothing that important I guess.
"The more important question is what are YOU doing on a night like this?" Russia appeared next to my desk, I startled myself a little.
"Right... I keep forgetting you can teleport," I flip the pages of my textbook skimming through it. "Do you even know what day this is?" America placed a hand on my desk.
"Mmhm, it's New Years Eve," I say unenthusiastically.
"Exactly! What are you doing holed up here reading whatever this is," he picked up my medical textbook with one of his tentacles from his back and analyzed it like he's never seen one before.
"I'm studying, now give that back would you!?" I snatched the book from his grasp. Suddenly there's a tap on my shoulder, I turn over begrudgingly. "这我给你," China handed me a red envelope.
I didn't understand what he said, "what's this?" I raised an eyebrow. "A gift for the New Years," his face turned redder than it originally was, he whipped his head away trying to avoid eye contact.
A country grabbed the envelope in my hand, it was Indonesia. "Are you sure this isn't a trick or something?"
"Give it back before I incinerate your brain, but it's not like you had one in the first place," China gave a slanted grin as his eyes turned to skits and scales formed at the edge of his eyes.
"No incinerating anyone in my house, Indo I'm sure it's nothing dangerous," I turn to both of them. They both relaxed a little. Indo handed the envelope back to me.
I open it and isine was a stack of money, "Ack Erm what is this??"
"It's money, it's just a weird Chinese tradition to give money to close family when it's the New Years," America shrugged. "You know oddly a lot about Chinese tradition." Russia raised an eyebrow.
He flinched, "well it's natural," he glared at the taller country. "Besides I know a lot about your traditions too anyway," he quietly muttered under his breath.
"What was that?" Russia asked, "nothing," the American shrugged it off. Maybe I should wait before I tell him that I heard that.
"But didn't America say it's only for close family?" I ask the Chinese man. "Well I treat you as I guess someone special to me in a way," he struggled to get the words out.
"Well In any case let's start a New Years celebration," another country appeared. "But I have to study France,"
"Nonsense child! Let me cook you up something amazing," he threw his hands up and made his way into the kitchen. "So Russ what do you do for New Years?" I asked him.
"It's something similar to Christmas, like leaving presents at midnight and stuff." He said nonchalantly.
"Now that's pretty rad, but don't you already have Christmas?" America placed one of his tentacles around the Russian's shoulder because he was too tall for America to reach with his hands.
"Uhm my dad sort of banned Christmas so we do Christmas related stuff on New Years, something like that, even though it's legal now I can't really shake off the traditions and habits."
"By the way Netherlands couldn't come so he told me to give you this," Russia handed me a plate of deep fried dough balls?
"Deep fried dough balls?" I say skeptically, "it's like his tradition, he said to eat it on midnight to ward of the evil spirits or something of that sort," America chimed in.
"Japan was too busy ringing his bell to come here, tradition again, he said he needed to do it exactly 108 times no exceptions, he's quite determined actually." China said, his Chinese accent rang in my ears.
"Oh I see,"
"I brought a gift for you (Y/N)," it was Italy, "hm?" I hummed. He handed me a nice golden bracelet, "woah! I can't accept this,"
"Please do, it's a tradition to give out gifts to someone special in my country."
"Well.. ok then, thank you," I nodded to him.
"It's almost midnight! Come (Y/N) we should go see the big Apple drop or something, since you can't go very far... sorry I had to reluctantly ban fireworks," he seemed a little guilty.
"It's okay, I actually have fireworks in my storage that I never used do you think you can make an exception just this one?" I placed a finger on my lips. "Yeah, yeah for sure!"
We spent the rest of the night preparing fireworks, luckily we had China who could light up the fireworks for us. Just a few minutes before midnight.
I sat down on the grass as everyone was busy preparing. A country sat next to me, "hey Russ," I smiled at him.
"I wanted to I guess apologize for the time when I wanted to kill you, ya know that incident and all," he averted his gaze.
"It's okay I'm glad we fixed the problem already right?" I lean on his shoulder.
"Yeah me too," he sighed.
The countdown for New Years has started I could hear it all the way from here. Everyone seemed excited.
"Russia I-,"
I didn't finish my sentence, Russia leaned in to me and filled the gap between us. I was shocked but I guess I should just enjoy it for the night, it is New Years after all. My face turned a red hue.
Fireworks set off behind us, the lights were very pretty and colorful. I guess I'm glad to have them around this New Year.
I'm glad all this happened.
Or did it?
