Wu Yifan or Kris Wu is one of the Chinese Zodiac Heroes who graduated from university. He is the tritagonist of the series.

Background

Official Description

Volume 1

Yifan 'Kris' Wu is a university student who has just graduated. He first appeared in Season 7 in Singapore. He is given the amulet of the Horse which gives him the ability to have the agility and teleport at any time. Like the Western Zodiac team, his pupils and irises disappear and his eyes turn gold.

Volume 2

Wu Yi Fan or Kris Wu is a Chinese/Canadian 29-year-old student with Horse-themed powers. When he and his peers were about to enter their house in New Zealand, they were falling down all of a sudden. They soon met an AI who leads them to an office where they meet Sir Simon again. When he activates his powers this time, he has a yellow and black suit with yellow-screened goggles and he can use his powers.

Appearance

He is shown to have dark brown hair which is slightly long along with straight bangs, brown eyes and tan skin with a fair tint. He wears a black leather jacket over a white shirt, black jeans and black shoes and a yellow bracelet on his left hand. His sleepwear consists of a white hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants. He stands on 6 ft. 1 1/2 and is of average weight. Kris turns chrome yellow/yellow in his spirit form.

Personality

Kris is a more mature character and can be serious like in a battle with Chase. He is also really smart and can translate what Tanya said in Season 7 Chapter 10.

As of Season 8, he is shown to speak Chinese whenever he gets stressed. He also finds wearing a kilt ridiculous.

Etymology

Despite the series mainly taking place in Australia and New Zealand and that Kris is Chinese-Canadian, Kris is a British name and a fairly European name which doesn't make sense since he is from the mainlands and not from Hong Kong or Singapore.

His native name, Wu Yi Fan is in Chinese so there's no evidence whether his name makes sense or not.

Overall despite being Chinese, there is no evidence whether his name makes sense or not. Also because he was born in China and raised in Canada.

His native name, 'Wu Yi Fan' may refer to various meanings like 'Wu' is a Chinese surname that literally means 'gateway to heaven', 'Yi' means 'resolute, decisive, firm' and 'Fan' might be named after a place from the Zhou dynasty. However, his western name, 'Kris' is an English name meaning 'follower of Christ.'
