ParkField Daunthill

22nd December 2020

The temperature outside had dropped drastically. The chilling Daunthill night winds filled the area. ParkField had nothing fancy to offer. The houses were identical. One could accidentally drive into their neighbour's garage if they didn't check the house number. Kenneth and Dimitri sat in a Toyota Avalon parked outside by the walkway. Kenneth struggled to fit his bulletproof vest over his long-sleeved black turtle-neck shirt. The turtle's neck extended into a mask. Dimitri stared at the detective as he strained his muscles and revealed the veins on his forehead in an attempt to buckle a bulletproof vest. Dimitri noticed a line on the side of the man's head. The skin within the line was lighter than its surrounding. If Kenneth had worn his shades any longer you can bet that place would be sore. Kenneth finally accomplished his secondary mission. "Yes," the detective rejoiced before turning to see Dimitri staring at him.

"What?"

"Nothing," Dimitri said "I was just wondering why you didn't get a vest for your size."

"Smaller sizes are cheaper"

"Really?"

"I don't know." Kenneth tried to get the kid to shut up.

"Do I get a vest?" Dimitri continued

"Nope"

"What if they shoot at me?"

"No one will shoot at you"

"Yes they will, I'm vulnerable"

"Fine," Kenneth exhaled and patted the vest "If they shoot at you I'll intercept."

Dimitri powered down. He looked at the clock on the dashboard at 10:34. The teenager sighed and dropped his head on the headrest. He turned his eyes from side to side and sighed again. While playing with his gaze he spotted something. The keyhole on the flap which opens the glove compartment. The shiny metal reflected a sharp ray of light into his eyes. He turned to Kenneth, the man was still gazing at the house a few blocks away. Probably waiting for a sign. He was so sure that Felicia was the killer's next target. Dimitri reached out and flicked the flap. The compartment dropped down. The boy's eyes lit up as he saw the gun.

"Sick," said Dimitri "It's a Glock-19"

Kenneth turned to see Dimitri about to grab the Glock. He slapped the boy's hand and sent the glove box back to its position. "Stay put" Kenneth warned him. Dmitri rolled his eyes and let out a sigh before lounging back on the seat. "What has gotten into you, you're acting like a freaking five-year-old."

"We should be in there," said Dimitri "if Santa shows up, I want to talk"

"By talk, you mean getting jabbed out of the window?"

"I wasn't thrown out of the window I jumped" Dimitri argued

"Look," Kenneth said "We can't just break into someone's house without a valid reason"

"Yeah sure" Dimitri folded his arms "But we can break out of police custody"

"Fine, you need something to play with?" Kenneth opened the console box between them "Here". The Detective pulled out a handheld transceiver and passed it to Dimitri. The teenager grabbed the device. He rotated it, studying all its parts, before turning it on. The handheld produced only static for the first few seconds before a voice came up. "Patrol wing three what's your status?"

"Clear" another voice replied.

"Shit, it's tapping into the police patrol line" Dimitri turned to Kenneth "you really got a thing for invading privacy don't ya?"
