The living room was immediately claimed by us once it was clear Lara didn't mind leaving us alone. She headed upstairs to work on something, and as soon as we heard a closed door, I could finally let out the breath I had been holding.

I was now comfortably tucked into the couch, and Kevin laid on top of me on his stomach, his arms wrapped around my waist and face turned towards the TV. I had my hands placed on his head, caressing his messy black strands as we stared at whatever show was playing.

In the calm silence, he eventually let out a soft groan, adjusting himself for a second, before letting go of my waist. He propped himself up, one hand on either side of me as they rested on the couch. Now, our eyes met once more. I raised an eyebrow at him, wondering the sudden change,

"What's up?" There was this cunning warmth displayed across his features, twisting my heart into knots as he spoke,

"Your heart. It's going a mile a minute." I crinkled my nose at him, pouting,

"That's just how it is normally." He didn't seem convinced.

"Are you sure about that?" Enjoyment was written across his face as he pushed further, "Or is it because of me?"

I placed both hands on either side of his face, leaning closer to him and pursing my lips. He relaxed into my touch, a funny thing, but before he could come any closer, I dropped my head back down on the couch with a not-so-dissimilar smirk as I eyed him,

"Yeah..." I drew out, "I'm pretty sure." He let out a chuckle, sitting up fully now and looking down at me,

"God... I hate it when you do that." Before I could ask, he leaned down towards my neck, and placed a sudden kiss on my throat. I bit lip as I waited, and after a moment's pause, he began trailing down to my collarbone. I couldn't help but relax, my fingers lacing themselves in his hair, my other hand placed on his forearm.

His hand drifted to my waist, keeping itself there as he paused, before pulling back and keeping  his face close to mine. His eyes met mine as he spoke, his voice soft and dark,

"Dove... you want to do this?" I could feel the warmth that spread over my skin come to a startled halt, and the air around us seemed to still. I could feel my brows furrow, unsure if I knew what he meant, but also hoping he'd tell me more as I asked,

"Do what, Kevin?" He, with an equally furrowed expression, seemed to pull back. His eyes travelled down my body in one flickering motion, looking at the space between us.

"All of this. This... fucking around. This spending time together. To continue doing what we're doing right now." He paused, his thumb brushing over my waist as we both looked down at the action, "This. Right here. This... being with me."

The words seemed so foreign coming from him, but everything always did. The way he was holding onto me, the way he looked back up to meet me my eyes, the way I could feel this lingering fear—an anxiousness—in the air. What today had shown me, clearly, was that I was nowhere near uncovering the mystery of Kevin. Not at all. He was just... full of surprises.

And it only pulled me in deeper.

"Yes, I do." My voice spoke in an unfamiliar confidence. It wasn't a lonesome tease thrown out, it wasn't an unsure answer or question. I knew what I wanted, and it was this.
