Chapter 16

-Alex-

"You're what?" I asked.

"We're buying a house in California and staying there for a while." my mother answered.

"But why?"

"We're opening another company there and we can't run it from Doncaster." my father replied.

"But you ran your London company from Doncaster." I pointed out.

"That's only a few hours away. We need to be right on top of things, and staying here while the company is in California won't help."

"You can come, or you can stay here if you want. I'm sure Mrs. Tomlinson will check in on you." Mum responded.

"Please don't mention that name." I sighed, and ran my fingers through my hair.

"Look, I know he's caused you pain-"

"Don't say that word either." I growled.

"Honey, you can't hide in here forever." my father said, changing the subject. "I know those boys hurt you, but hiding in your room for the rest of the summer wont help. Go outside and swim, go shopping, do something!"

"I have no one to do that stuff with. I'm completely and utterly, alone." I whispered.

-Louis-

"I didn't want to, but Liam told me he'd do anything in return." I heard Harry sigh.

"You really ruined their relationship." Niall whispered.

"You don't think I know that? I would do anything to go back in time and say 'no' to Liam."

"I thought Liam was the innocent one." Zayn chuckled bitterly.

"You thought wrong." Harry replied.

What did Liam make Harry do?

"He hasn't come out of his room in days." Niall sighed.

"Neither has Louis." Zayn responded.

"Do you think he knows the truth?"

"Doubt it. What would Liam even say? 'Oh, well, I made Harry kiss Alex because I love her too and you don't deserve her. So yeah.' That'd definitely work out well."

"LIAM DID WHAT?!" I screamed, running into the room. All three boys froze and looked at me with shocked expressions. "I'm going to repeat myself, and I expect an answer. Liam did what?"

Harry took in a deep breath of air.

"Liam made me kiss Lex, making sure you were there to see. That way you'd break up with her and he could swoop in and take her." Harry explained.

"W-why would Liam do that?" I stuttered.

"That's what I was thinking." Zayn said.

"I'm going to kill him." I growled and starting to walk away.

"Louis! Just leave him be. I think knowing that Alex doesn't love him back and practically hates him right now is enough torture." Niall called after me. I stopped and turned around.

"I guess you're right." I mumbled.

"How does it feel?" a voice asked from behind. I spun around and faced Paul, with Liam behind him.

"Excuse me?"

"How does it feel to know that you and your best friend ruined your relationship with probably the most amazing girl on this planet?" Paul questioned angrily.

I didn't answer him.

"She was like my own daughter. I loved her to pieces. These boys, your best friends, loved her like a sister. Stop thinking about yourself and how bad you felt. Think about how she felt, and how your friends felt. They lost someone that day. They lost a best friend, a sister. Honestly, I feel like a part of me is missing because she isn't here anymore. Now she's alone in a huge house. Her parents are gone, she has no friends to keep her company, no pets. That little girl, a sweet and innocent girl, is alone all because of two idiot boys. You need to fix this before she decides to leave with her parents." Paul spoke. "How does it feel to know you left that poor girl in a hospital bed? In another country, may I add. Just imagine being her. Waiting for one of her best friends to walk in and keep her company. But no one came. No one even came to tell her you all went back to England. You may have thought it was a good idea to leave, but it wasn't. You may have thought your plan was thought out, but it wasn't. You're both wrong. Stop acting like you're the victims in this situation, because if anyone is, it's Alex, Niall, Zayn, Harry and I."

"What do you mean, leave with her parents?" Liam asked quietly.

"Her parents are moving to California for the rest of the summer." Paul replied.

"We have to stop her." I demanded.

"She isn't leaving yet. I suggest you go over there and make her life worth living or she will leave. And you'll never see her again." he paused. "We'll never see her again."

I let his words sink in.

I need her.

I need my sweet, innocent, beautiful Alex.

And I'm getting her back.

And I have the perfect idea how.

-Alex-

I unlocked my front door and walked into the beautiful cold air. I threw my car keys on the table and went to the fridge to grab an apple.

I just got back from dropping my parents off at the airport. The second they stepped out of the truck, I was alone for the rest of the summer.

My house is now silent. The only sound is coming from me biting into my apple. I walked to my back door and gazed at my pool. The water looked to refreshing for this hot day and I was tempted to go for a swim. But the last time I was in there was when I first met Louis. And I was not in the mood for a recap. I just wanted to forget about him and the boys.

I sighed and started up the stairs to my room. The stairs squeaked under my feet, causing me to wince at the loud sound. I neared my bedroom door, which was surprisingly shut. I remember keeping it open before I left.

Whatever. Mum probably closed it while she was getting her things to leave.

I turned the knob and pushed through.

I stopped and gaped at what surrounded me. I felt tears spring to my eyes as I recognized it. Memories flashed through my mind as I gazed around the room.

The only sound now was when my tears would hit the floor. But through all those tears, I small smile made its way onto my lips.
