when night falls
and the stars begin
to glisten
I look out the window
watch them glimmer
and shine
watch them smile
down at me
like everything
is going to be alright,
even in the midst
of darknessI am learning
to look in the mirror
and see the stars
in my own smileI am learning
to fall in love
with myselfFor years
I have picked
and pulled
and picked
and pulled
at the threads
of my grandma's pillowsI am realizing
that I have done the same
to myself
I have picked
and pulled
and picked
and pulled
at the threads of my heart
until it fell apart
completelyBut I am learning
that I deserve more
than destructionI am learning
that I, too,
am a masterpieceI am learning
to see the stars
in my own smile,
the clouds
in my own laughter,
and the sun
in my own heart
