But at last you found a place to live in Kabuki District and the rent was also cheap, (it was suspicious that the rent was too cheap to be true especially in Edo but who cares), you were glad that you got a place to live. The houselady was, how to say it, (you look around and seeing that no one was there, whisper it to the readers), was pretty........pretty ugly and harsh to be honest. But as long as you don't get on her bad side, you were safe.

When you first came to Edo, you were worried about getting a job. You searched for a part-time job, but soon you found that there rarely any job options for a woman in the city. When after weeks of searching, you were walking around the city at night dejected, a man in his thirties appeared in front of you. He requested (rather he begged on his knees), you to be a hostess of his bar, Snack Smile for a day as due to some circumstances there were shortage of hostess in his bar and the customer was an amanto official working under the Shogun's Bafuku who was adamant on making his bar out of business if the hostesses were not arranged quickly. You accepted his offer and in return, he agreed to pay you some money for the work.
The boss of the Snack Smile took a liking to you quickly while you were working for him for a day and requested you to work there for him which you gladly accepted.
You were a beauty, (don't worry you still are and will be beautiful forever, reader-san), and because of your elegant, polite and graceful manners and behavior, you soon became the star of the Snack Smile. Customers instantly liked you and you couldn't help but notice that even though most of your colleague hostess admired and respected you, some of them were jealous of you.
After some weeks of you joining the Snack Smile, a new hostess was hired. Her name was Shimura Otae, (you already knew who she was after all you have watched the anime Gintama), and she soon became your friend.
