vanessa sat on the curb of the street, just watching as cars drove past every once in a while. she was upset about the way kian was acting but she didn't want to express it. she ultimately felt like she needed a break.
after all, everything was happening so fast. she hadn't even been there for a week.
she heard footsteps behind her, completely ignoring them and hoping that it was no one who would cause her any physical damage. the person sat down next her, his arms playing with his shoelaces.
she looked up to find crawford. "i didn't know that going for a spontaneous walk was your thing." he joked, making her smile slightly.
she shrugged. "i just needed some fresh air." she replied and it wasn't just an excuse. in all honesty, she really did need some alone time. "i get it, i know things have been stressful for you, especially with what happened back there." crawford said, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"you heard that?" she asked, slightly embarassed.
crawford shook his head. "um, no. kian told us."
"us?" she asked, feeling her cheeks heat up. she could not handle the embarrassment of everyone knowing that they were arguing over something completely ridiculous. especially the fact that it included someone from their friend group who wasn't kian.
"just corey, julian, and i."
she nodded, slightly relieved yet still embarrassed because the guy comforting her was the main source of kian's jealousy. "i'm sorry you got caught up in this mess." vanessa apologized, crawford shrugging it off.
it didn't bother him that kian was jealous, he knew that his relationship with vanessa was completely platonic and it was always going to be like that.
"don't stress about it. we both know that we're just friends. if he can't seem to understand that, then he's pinning himself in a battle with himself." crawford said.
"you know, you're really good at giving advice. if this whole youtuber thing doesn't work out for you, maybe you should become some sort of counselor." vanessa laughed, causing crawford to jokingly elbow her.
"well, we're possibly missing opening gifts right now with everyone, but i have yours right here." he said, pulling a small little box from his hoodie pocket. he handed the box over to vanessa, her hand closing around it, looking up at him.
"you didn't- thank you." she said, interrupting her own statement. she opened the little box to see a pair of butterfly earrings. they were silver with a little pink diamond in the middle. "wow, these are gorgeous." she said, looking at them closely in the sunlight that was slowly disappearing.
"i wasn't sure if it was something you were in to, but julian said you really liked butterflies and the color pink." crawford said, scratching the back of his neck in a nervous manner.
"they're literally perfect." she said, pulling him into a hug. he smiled, wrapping his arms around her.
"we should probably get back before they start coming up with more rumors." crawford joked, separating from the hug and standing up. he held his hand out for vanessa as she gladly accepted it. she brushed off her jeans before looking in direction of the party.
"actually, if you don't mind, could you drive me back to the hotel?" she asked. "sure thing." crawford replied, before they began walking back to jc's where his car was parked.
the entire ride to the hotel was silent, crawford's playlist being the only thing filling the car. once they arrived, vanessa hopped out of the car and bid him a goodbye.
"you're going to be okay?" he asked. she smiled and nodded. "yeah, i think some alone time will be good." she replied.
"text me if you need anything." he called out, as she waved goodbye to him.

vanessa set her phone down, looking up at the ceiling. things were getting out of hand. she came to la to have a good time, not to fight with her supposed "future boyfriend".
she just wanted to go home, not be sitting there at the hotel, but actually go home. she looked up at the tv, trying to get herself to stop thinking about the events that happened and just try to be happy.
