it had been almost a month since vanessa and julian were back from california. throughout that time, vanessa and everyone back in los angelos had become closer even if they only made contact through texts, facetimes, and social media.
vanessa and kian were officially exclusive, even though they hadn't put a label on their relationship. they had agreed to take things slow and not rush into a long distance relationship, but would try to get know each other more.
vanessa and franny also grew a stronger friendship, always keeping tabs with each other. chelsey was also close to vanessa, but she was usually doing her own thing so they didn't have a bond quite like vanessa did with franny.
crawford stayed true to his statement of vanessa being his new best friend. whenever she wasn't on the phone with kian or franny, she would be on facetime with crawford complaining about their daily struggles and making jokes.
jc and vanessa weren't super close but they'd communicate every once in awhile either through text or on facetime with chelsey.
david and vanessa didn't hangout as much when she was in los angelos but they had started forming a friendship through text.
vanessa sat on the balcony of the apartment, a bright smile on her face as kian made a joke on the other side of the phone screen.
vanessa stifled a yawn, trying to rub the sleep out of her eyes, not wanting to end the phone call.
"you tired?" he asked, giving her a sad smile.
kian loved being on facetime with vanessa and most hours of the day, he was, but he could tell that she was tired, especially when she would have a busier day at work than usual.
"no, i'm good." she replied, unintentionally letting a yawn escape. he laughed quietly with a shake of his head as her face flushed.
"okay, maybe i'm a little tired but it's fine. i have the day off tomorrow, anyway," she looked at the time before correcting herself, "well, today."
kian shook his head.
"you should go rest, we can talk later." he said as she obliged his suggestion.
"okay, but after you film your video with jc. i don't want him complaining again." vanessa joked, remembering the very long paragraph jc had sent her the first time kian flaked on him because of a facetime call.
"yes, m'am. goodnight!" he waved as vanessa waved back and then ended the call.
she looked at the time and saw it was a little past 1am. she yawned once again and realized that she was utterly exhausted.
she headed back inside to see her friends all surrounding the tv. they had been engrossed with the tv for the past week, trying to binge watch all of the seasons of fuller house.
she walked towards them, realizing that they weren't watching netflix but instead were watching kian and jc's youtube videos.
"hey, guys. which video is this?" vanessa asked causing them to immediately turn off the tv and smile at her innocently.
"what video?" miguel asked, earning an elbow to the rib from mallory. he groaned in pain falling into the couch as julian rolled his eyes.
"it's nothing, how's kian?" julian asked, standing from the couch and joining vanessa on the other side.
he placed his arm around her shoulders, leading her towards the kitchen. mallory and miguel shortly followed after them, arguing quietly, making sure vanessa didn't hear them.
"he's fine. you guys are acting weird." vanessa shifted the conversation, escaping from julian's grasp to study her friends.
"us? weird? i don't think so." mallory said, smiling her usual bright smile.
vanessa's face contorted into confusion but soon let it go, not wanting to continue tiptoeing around their weirdness.
"i have things to do in the morning, so i'm going to head to bed." vanessa said, grabbing a water bottle and walking out of the kitchen.
she walked by the tv that it was shut off and had the urge to turn it back on. her curiosity wanted to know what her friends were hiding from her but then she shook the feeling off.
they were her best friends and she trusted them.
she walked into her room and plugged in her phone. her phone chimed, causing her to look at it. crawford's name popped up on her phone.
