I leaned against the mahogany tree as its leaves gently fell to the ground, with my notepad in hand, just sitting on one of the benches.

I simply wanted to reflect on the events that have unfolded in my life over the past 11 years.

I couldn't help but wonder, had I told Ash back then that I had feelings for him, would he still have pursued Percy? If I had confessed my emotions, revealing more than just friendship, could we have arrived at a point where secret meetings, hidden affections, and covert flirting became our reality?

I shook my head in frustration. Why are these thoughts plaguing my mind?

So, what am I to Ash now? We've both confessed our love for each other, yet we remain apart.

What if I hadn't pressured him to choose Percy? What if I had allowed him to choose me of his own accord?

Our situation is incredibly complicated. No official labels, but the feelings between us are crystal clear. We can't have labels due to the complexity of our circumstances.

It's a mess.

"Haduf! You scared me!

"Really? Good to hear.

Talaga ba Marci? Hindi masakit?

Yeah, whatever.

"Yeah." Pinakatitigan niya pa ako.

"Bakit?" alangang tanong ko. Umupo naman siya sa tabi ko.

She sighed and looked up before speaking, "There are things that really can't work, like they say, brought together but not destined. Loving each other, but at the end of the day, you'll still go your separate ways. Mismatched. Grammatically incorrect. Repelled. Syntax error. Many things happen like that."

Indeed, there really is no forever. Or maybe it's just us who don't have it.

"But Marci, there are also things that need a fight to become possible. Love is a debate. Rule number one: don't let competitors ruin your defense. Know and strengthen your stance. If it's wrong for them, then prove your points. If you feel like you're in a bad catch, then do your best to be in a good one."

But she's right. Love is a debate. There are always two sides, the positive and the negative. Each person on both sides has their own moment and place to substantiate their arguments.
