Colby had just finished saying his goodbyes to his colleagues and packing up his bag, it was going to be a long drive to the airport tonight. He was finally going home after two weeks of being on the road nonstop and it was honestly needed for his sanity.
He walked out of the locker room, anxious to get to his car before all of the fans got out of the arena so he could get out without being hounded like any normal night.
"Daddy!" Colby heard the tiny voice call from down the hall, he knew that voice, the tiniest amount of an accent made her stand out from all the rest of the superstars kids and he turned to see his tiny four year old daughter running up to him with tears in her eyes
"Remi" he said as the little girl ran up to him "What's wrong?" he asked as he bent down to be eye level with the tiny brunette
"Mommy" she said in tears as she grabbed his hand in her tiny one and began to pull him "Mommy" she said again as she tried pulling him again
"What about your Mommy?" he asked as he abandoned his bag in the hall and let her pull him
"Mommy's hurt" she cried and Colby was confused, he had just seen Rebecca 45 minutes ago in catering and she was fine
Remi pulled him towards the back curtain where there was a crowd of people, there was at least 10 producers, Hunter, Stephanie, the entire Smackdown women's roster, three doctors and a few paramedics.
Colby quickly picked his little girl up in his arms and made his way through the crowd and that's when he saw it.
Rebecca was standing there, a doctor holding a towel to her face as a paramedic tried to check her but she kept refusing.
"Give her room guys" Hunter said to the crowd of people "Just give her space" he said and the crowd quickly dispersed "Rebecca you need to go to the hospital"
"I'm fine" she said muffled into the towel "It's just a scratch" she said as she pulled the towel away from her face and revealed her nose that was three times bigger than what it normally was, her face was already swelling and bruising and she was bleeding more than Colby had seen anyone bleed in a long time, Remi turned her face and hid in her father's neck
"Rebecca" Colby said and the redhead's eyes shakily met his and he knew right then, by the look in her eyes she was out of it "You need to go get checked out" he said and she began to shake her head "Please" he pleaded "For her" he said gently moving Remi from one arm to the other and her eyes landed on her daughter
"Fine" she said "Fine" she said again
The paramedics brought her to the ambulance and Colby climbed in the back with Remi still hiding in his neck
"Why are you here?" she questioned
"Because somebody needs to be with you that knows your allergies and all of the right information"
"I know my information" she snapped
"Really?" he questioned "When's your birthday?"
"January.." she thought for a second "I know its in January okay?"
"30th" he said with a nod
Sitting in the Emergency Room, Rebecca had a CAT Scan and other tests performed. It was determined she had a broken nose and a severe concussion.
"How did you know.." she asked quietly, she was somewhat coming back to herself and Colby looked down at his daughter who was fast asleep in his lap against his chest "She told you.." she nodded
"She practically drug me to you.. she said you were hurt and I needed to come fix it"
"I know you are supposed to be home this week, you're not supposed to be on parent duty this week"
"Rebecca I'm always a parent, even when she's not with me, I'm there when I need to be"
"I'm sorry ya know.." she said quietly and now he was confused "I kind of flipped your entire life upside down"
"You don't know what you're talking about.. you're concussed" he shook his head
"I'm serious" she nodded and winced slightly in pain and grabbed her head "I was still in developmental when I found out I was pregnant.. I hadn't been there long and.."
"Rebecca, we were both adults" he stated "It was a party and there was alcohol, we were both adults that should have known our limits but obviously we didn't.. or if we did we didn't care at the time" he shook his head "We had sex.. unprotected.. what did we think was going to happen? You didn't flip my life upside down" he shook his head
"You were in a relationship at the time"
"Yeah, a bad one" he nodded "If anything you saved me from that disaster"
"What about now? Your relationship just ended because of Remi.."
"My relationship did not end because of Remi, it ended because she was too uptight and controlling. It ended because she didn't want you and I to raise a child together and I wouldn't walk away"
"Relationships are harder now" she nodded "Luke and I broke up a few weeks ago" she said and his eyes widened
"Why didn't you tell me that?"
"Why would you care?"
"Because you're the mother of my child.. but you're my friend first and I care about you"
After getting released from the hospital, Colby managed to convince Rebecca to get in his rental car that Ashley had dropped off in the parking lot while they were there.
Instead of driving to the airport like previously planned, he drove to the hotel in the next town where Smackdown would be held the next night.
He got Rebecca into the room and settled before taking his daughter to the conjoining room and placing her in the bed, he pulled the blankets around her and just stared at her for a moment.
"She loves you.." Remi whispered and her little eyes fluttered open and met his "Mommy loves you" she said and he shook his head
"Go to bed kid.. you're delirious" he kissed her head
Now I know what you're wondering, How exactly did we get here? Well for that story.. We have to go back four years..
