"Soo.. we need to talk" Ashley said as she talked to Rebecca on FaceTime as she made lunch for Remi who was currently occupied by the trampoline outside "about the gender reveal party"
"What gender reveal party? I'm having a gender reveal party?" Rebecca questioned
"You're not?" The blonde asked confused and Rebecca shook her head
"Do you want to know what our gender reveal is going to be? We are going to go to the doctor, they are going to write down boy or girl on a piece of paper, put it in a taped envelope and we are going to take it to the paint store.. we are going to pick out a color for a girl nursery and a color for a boy nursery and then we will give the envelope to the worker and they will mix the paint and we won't know until we open the can"
"That is the cutest and most elaborate thing I have ever heard of in my entire life"
"Colby watched a gender reveal compilation video on youtube and wanted to do something different"
"When is this gender reveal going to happen? I need to know who I'm buying clothes for"
"Two days" Rebecca nodded "but We are probably going to keep it to ourselves for a little while before we let anybody else in"
"Aww" Ashley groaned "Not fair, I tell you everything"
"Yes but this is something we want to keep to ourselves.. kind of like the birth" she said
"Wait! What about our promise? We said we would be in the room with each other and I was there for the first one!" she complained
"I know and I love you! I do.. but this is something we want to do on our own, without anybody else.. we want it to just be us.. as few people in the room as possible.. we aren't even going to let my mother come over until after the baby is born.. Holly is going to have Remi and she isn't even going to be called until after we've had our time.. we don't get to keep much to ourselves and Colby wasn't there the first time around, I want him to be able to have those moments.. I was us to have those moments together and we are going to protect and cherish this between just us.. just the three of us"
Sitting in the doctors office two days later felt different this time. Rebecca and Colby had been to three other doctors appointments since finding out she was pregnant but this was different, this appointment wasn't her regular check up, yes they would be checking on her but today was solely focused on showing the parents-to-be their baby and finding out the gender.
Colby sat in his usual spot next to Rebecca's head, holding her hand tightly in his as they watched the ultrasound technician place the transducer on her abdomen after applying the gel and the monitor came to life.
There it was, bigger than the last time they saw it.
"Woah" Colby said and Rebecca looked over at him for a split second and then back to the monitor
"Well hello there" the technician said with a smile "Its a little bigger than last time you saw it I'm guessing"
"Extremely" Rebecca smiled "I mean I see the changes in my body every day but actually seeing it.." she shook her head
"Look at the little face" Colby said in awe
"It is cute" the technician said with a smile
They watched the baby for close to an hour and it was almost as if it knew they had their parents undivided attention because they showed off all of the new tricks they were learning.
"Can you feel that?" Colby asked as they watched the baby stretch
"Uh yeah" Rebecca said "It's stretching but where do you think the feet are going?" she asked and he looked at her "Up in my ribs" she said
"The feet are in your ribs?!" he asked concerned and she laughed
"They don't have a lot of room in there, where else are they going to go?"
"Does it hurt?"
"No" she shook her head "I mean its a little uncomfortable when its a lot at once but it's okay" she nodded
After the ultrasound was over, They made their way to the paint store.
It took them two hours and a few disagreements to finally decide on the paint colors.
45 minutes later they had the paint mixed, and were home.
They sat on the floor in the room that would become the nursery in the next few months and stared at one another
"You open it" Colby said to his wife and she shook her head
"No, you do it" she said and he took a deep breath and began to open the can before she stopped him "Wait.." she said
"What?" he questioned concerned
"No matter what color is in this can.. we are going to love it just the same" she said
"Of course" he nodded "Kiss me" he said and she leaned over and kissed him quickly
He slowly went around the can with the screwdriver and opened it, he held the lid for a moment before turning it over
"Oh my god" he said and he looked at his wife whose hands were over her face "Aw, baby don't cry" he said pulling her into his chest "Are you happy?" he asked and she nodded
"Its a girl" she whispered and he kissed her head
"I love you" he said quietly
"I love you" she smiled
Colby walked into the master bedroom later that night and saw his wife laying in bed
"Look at the little fingers" she cooed and Colby smiled as he walked over to the bed and looked the picture as he laid next to her
"She has very cute fingers" he nodded and she rolled her eyes
"The little nose.."
"That's your nose, thank god" he said and she laughed "I think little Lopez is gonna look like you" he said
"You don't want her to look like you?" she questioned and he shook his head
"You're way more good looking than I am"
"Well thank you, but are you sure about that?" she questioned "I mean think about it.. you tell me how beautiful I am everyday"
"And I mean it every single time" he nodded
"Do you really want little Lopez to look like me when she starts dating?"
"Never gonna happen" he sang "You hear that in there kid?" he placed his hand on her stomach "You're never dating" and he felt a jab to his hand and his eyes widened as he looked at his wife
"She's arguing with you" she said
"Listen here little girl, just because your mom and sister can get away with arguing with me doesn't mean you get the same treatment" he said and he felt another jab to his hand "Unbelievable" he shook his head "Help me here" he looked up at his wife
"Don't worry little love, Just like I did with your sister, I'll teach you how to get away with it" she placed her hand beside his
"So this is how this is gonna go? You three are going to gang up on me?" he questioned and he felt another jab
"Yes" Rebecca said at the same time the little girl kicked
