Colby,Rebecca, and Remi walked into Holly's home, it was the second night of the year that the whole family got to be together besides thanksgiving. Holly made it a point to have her family over on Christmas night so her children could get time with their significant others and so Rebecca and Colby could have Christmas morning with Remi to themselves.
"How do the Christmas lights in Davenport compare to the ones in Dublin?" Holly asked as Rebecca sat down on the couch next to her future mother-in-law
"Do you want me to lie to you?" Rebecca questioned Holly laughed
"I think we may lose your brother to Dublin soon Brandon" Holly looked at her eldest son
"Fine by me, the attention will be back on me for a change" Brandon shrugged and Colby hit his arm
"The attention was on you the entire time growing up" the younger brother stated
"Yeah until somebody decides to go and one up me and get on TV then all of the sudden you're Mom's favorite"
"Mom does not have favorites" Holly shook her head "and if I did, my favorite is Remi"
"Ha!" Remi said as she pointed at her uncle and father who were sitting on the floor next to her
"Wait a second, what about Nicole?" Brandon questioned
"Your new girlfriend?" Colby questioned
"What is this number 4 or 5 this week?" Rebecca asked
"Ouch!" Brandon exclaimed as he rubbed his chest "That hurts coming from you Rebecca.. and I was actually starting to like you"
"Truth hurts.." Rebecca shrugged
"How do you deal with her?" Brandon asked Colby
"Its more so, how does she deal with me.."
"Smart answer" Holly nodded as she reached for the presents under the tree and distributing them between the three adults and her granddaughter
Spending Christmas at Holly's was much needed family time. If you asked Colby, he couldn't get enough time with his family, Rebecca while she enjoyed it and loved that her daughter had the family environment but it also made her miss her own family even more than she already did.
She missed the tradition of her mother cooking dinner every year, the tradition of getting hot chocolate with her dad like she'd done since she was a small child, trying to one-up her older brother with who gave the better gift to Ma that year.
After they got home late that night, Rebecca got a shower while Colby put Remi to sleep.
She walked out into the master bedroom and saw her husband laying on the bed, looking through his phone.
"Did you enjoy tonight?" she asked as she walked into the closet
"I did" he nodded "It's always nice to get together with Mom and Brandon" he smiled as she walked out of the closet with a tiny box in her hands "What is that?" he asked as she walked over to the bed
"Your last gift" she said as she sat on the bed and handed the box to him
"Is this a ring? Last time I gave you a box it had a ring in it" he said and she shook her head with a laugh
"Just open it" she smiled and he looked at her, he studied her for a moment before opening the box and his jaw dropped "This is.. I've seen this before" he said taking the gold chained pocket watch out of the box and she nodded
"It was my Dad's, he wanted you to have it.. he gave it to me the last time we were in Ireland" she explained
"He wanted me to have the pocket watch you gave him.. the first gift you ever gave him at 5 years old?" he questioned confused and she nodded
"Flip it over" she said and he eyed her carefully before flipping the watch over and for the first time he saw what was engraved on the back of the watch "I Love You Daddy!' he read and his eyes snapped to hers and she nodded slowly
"Consider this the first gift this baby" she placed her hands on her abdomen "has ever given you"
"W-wait.." he stuttered as he sat the watch on his nightstand "You're pregnant.." he said in a whisper and she nodded as tears filled her eyes
"It's been a really long day" she sighed "I've known since this morning and I didn't want to tell you before we went to your mom's because we don't need to tell anybody yet.. it's early, really early" she said with a nod "It's been so hard not to tell you, I'm sorry I didn't tell you soon-" she stopped talking when his lips crashed on hers and she felts his hands on either side of her face, pulling her closer, savoring this moment
He pulled away slightly, placing another gentle kiss on her lips as he pressed his forehead against hers and stared at her with a small smile on his face
"We're going to have a baby" he said in a whisper and she nodded against him
"We are" she nodded
"I love you" he said quickly
"I love you" she said
