"And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born--to fight the foes no single superhero could withstand! Through the years, their roster has prospered, changing many times, but their glory has never been denied! Heed the call, then--for now, the Avengers Assemble!"

THIRD PERSON POV

"How bad is it?" Nick Fury asked walking towards the SHIELD base in New Mexico.

"That's the problem sir, we don't know." Coulson sighed in irritation.

Nick Fury nodded, holding the door open for Maria Hill and Agent Coulson as they entered the base. Agent Coulson began leading the way towards the labs.

"Dr. Selvig read an energy surge from the tesseract four hours ago." Coulson informed.

"NASA didn't authorize Selvig to run any tests.." Nick quirked a brow up.

"He wasn't testing it, sir. He wasn't even anywhere near the cube when it happened." Coulson shook his head.

"So, it just turned itself on?" Agent Hill asked in confusion.

"What are the levels now?" Nick asked, almost hesitantly.

"Rising. Selvig can't shut it down." Coulson gulped trying to hide the worry from his tone.

Nick nodded and then turned towards Maria, "How long to get everyone out?"

Agent Hill licked her lips, "Half hour."

"Do better." Nick demanded. Maria nodded and left the two men to start evacuating people.

"Sir, if we can't control the tesseract energy, there may not be a minimal safe distance." Coulson said, opening the door to the radiology lab.

"You get the spider on our side?" Nick asked.

Coulson nodded, "On the jet to the helicarrier as we speak."

"Good." Nick hummed, "Because if this thing goes south, and something happens, we might need her."

"Talk to me doctor!" Nick said walking over to Dr. Selvig.

"Director!" Selvig smiled.

"Anything we know for certain?" Nick placed his hands on his hips.

"The tesseract is misbehaving." Selvig whistled lowly.

"Is this funny to you?" Nick hissed.

"No, no!" Selvig quickly said, "She's not only active but SHES misbehaving. I can't pull the plug. If I do, she comes back on. She's an energy source."

"We've practiced harnessing energy from space, Doctor."

"This is different. She's throwing off interference, radiation. It's very low levels at the moment, but they'll only get bigger the more she goes to reach peak level." Selvig fidgeted.
