More Fragile Than You Think

Peridot's POV

" What's going on? Why am I here?" I said extremely confused as I wandered the black void that surrounded me. I knew I was dreaming, but that didn't help me figure out why or what exactly was happening. All of a sudden a sphere of light would rise in the distance and all of the darkness surrounding me would go away. I could now actually see what was around me, I turned around seeing it was mainly a wide open plane, an area meant for farming crops, and finally an oddly decorated barn.

" W-wait, why am I back here again? What is my stupid head trying to tell me!" I then saw what seemed to be recreations of Lapis and I. We seemed to be confronting one another about something, the sound was garbled for a little bit but I soon heard what the two were saying.

" I'm not getting caught up in another war Peridot, I'd like for you to come with me but you're not stopping me. " The dream Lapis spoke, my eyes widened after hearing that as I now knew what event was going on. However the dream Peridot ran up to Lapis held her arm in her hand with tears streaming down saying

" Please Lapis don't! This is our home we have to fight for it! I know we can do it so please don't leave, you don't need to run away again!" After dream Peridot said that the Lapis easily pushed her off of her arm. She then turned her back toward her saying

" Peridot, this is goodbye. You're not the gem to make me believe we have the strength to stop them. If anything you make me feel like our chances are lower. " When she said that I had tears well up as I was extremely confused, she had never said that in my memory! I knew my mental state was affecting the dream, however before I could realise the dream Lapis had flew off with the barn while the dream Peridot just sat down onto the ground and cried into her knees.

I wanted to help her so much, but before I could I felt disoriented and disconnected from the area around me. I must be waking up! Before I knew it my upper body sprung up as I heavily breathed. I had heard of these nightmares from Steven before but I couldn't know they were this bad. Even though I was still awake I could still feel disoriented and that my sight was blurry. I got up going to the small mirror that I had on my dresser to make sure I looked okay. However once  I did I saw a small crack going down the middle of my gem, after seeing that I jumped back and started panicking.

How could my gem of gotten damaged? I hadn't done anything to physically damage it, I could feel my physical body slowly losing its ability to control itself. Soon enough I looked over to see that my entire left arm was missing! This was probably a symptom of my gem being cracked, I slowly walked toward my door, I had to inform Lapis,  or anyone who could even hear me. I opened the door with my one hand and I started to loudly groan saying

" Lapis! Please wake up..... I-something's wrong! Please! Please Lapis!" Eventually Lapis opened her door looking into the living room and seeing me, she saw my missing arm and probably a small glance at my gem.  However it was no use, I had no more strength in me. I collapsed onto the floor and before I knew it I had poofed only leaving my gem.

Lapis POV

I hurried down the stairs to see Peridot's gem lying on the floor, cracked. I was panicking as I picked it up holding it close to my chest, tears were streaming down my face as I am quickly looked around me. I knew someone had to of broke into the house and assaulted Peridot in order to crack her gem. My water wings had formed and I wanted to unleash everything I could on the intruder if I could find them, I even screamed out saying

" WHERE ARE YOU? WHY'D YOU ATTACK MY FRIEND? I PROMISE YOU THAT I'LL SHATTER YOU! " After saying that I quickly explored the house seeing if they were still here, they were not. Why would anyone attack Peridot? I couldn't stand the fact that someone would do that! I ran to the phone picking it up and calling Pearl. I impatiently waited for her to pick up and once she did I said panicking

" Pearl-I something happened to Peridot! I don't know if someone attacked her or something happened but her gem is cracked and she poofed,  I have her now though!" I could hear that a Pearl had almost dropped the phone in shock but she quickly said

" Don't worry Lapis, me and the gems will be there right away! Just keep her and yourself safe for now!" She then hanged up, I knew the thing that attacked Peridot would be in more danger than me if it returned, that's probably what the gems really wanted to stop. Me going crazy and shattering whoever did this, not long passed till Garnet, Pearl, and Bismuth bursted through the door weapons in hand. I looked up to the still having tears as I held Peridot's gem up towards them.

Garnet no longer had that composed look and had one that seemed full of fury, she then looked toward Pearl saying " Pearl, call Steven, he might be the only one who can help. Take Lion to him if you need to. Lapis can you tell me what happened?

I hesitantly nodded and sat down on the couch shaking and said " I woke up hearing Peridot scream for help saying ' Something's wrong! ' and when I saw her she collapsed on the floor and poofed, she was missing an arm and her gem was cracked, I don't know what monster would attack her!" before I could continue on Bismuth had checked Peridot's room and came back saying " Her room doesn't look damaged, besides for a small mirror on the floor. Something must've happened to her or someone must've been really quiet and sneaky to do this without making any noise or alarming anyone. "

Garnet nodded as she laid Peridot's gem onto a small pillow and held my shoulder saying " Lapis, I promise we'll find who did this and make sure they get what they deserve. Wait.... " Once Garner said that I looked up to her in confusion, was she seeing something weird happen in her future vision? Maybe she was in shock of who had done it? She then looked at Peridot's gem and then back at me saying

" I saw Peridot attacking Peridot, I also saw her explaining she got her damages from a dream? It doesn't make sense, a gems dream shouldn't affect their physical state. Has she been, well, better lately?" Once she asked that I nodded as I grabbed the pillow that her gem was on top of and held it close to me as I said

" Yeah, we were getting along and everything was going fine, even more than I thought it'd be. You think she saw something in her dream that caused the damage? It probably has to do with something I did" Garnet thought for a moment, then she sat down on the couch next to me saying " Well, not even I can see the explanation for this, but don't worry Lapis, I'm sure everything will be alright. I'm just unsure how a gem could crack themselves "

When she said that I had picked up Peridot's gem holding it in a cradle of my arms, she did seem that she was doing better, maybe I was wrong. Maybe I wasn't trying hard enough to help her, I sighed then solemnly said " Maybe she was just more fragile than we thought. "
