Golfing Into War

Peridot POV

Lapis and I were with Steven as he drove towards a strange place just outside of beach city. He called it a " Golf Resort " and ever since the incident with that Spinel the mayor has kept it open with free admission as a way for people of beach city to calm down. An admirable action seeing as your people could be affected from stress and anxiety in many ways that could affect their work. Eventually we arrived at the resort and all of us got out of the car and Steven began to say

" Golf isn't really the most complicated sport. I'll explain once we get what we need. " He led us towards a small booth that marked the entrance of this " Golfing range ". Steven spoke to the lady running it and she handed him three tools I couldn't identify and three circular object. Steven then handed me a green tool, Lapis a blue tool, and he kept a pink one for himself. He also got three circular objects all of which were a bright white. He gave Lapis and I each one.

Once we got onto the area for this " Golfing " Steven turned to us and held his tool up a bit saying " This is a Golf club, and you're supposed to use that to hit this. " He then held up the circular object and said " This is a golf ball. In order to play Golf you need to use the club to hit the golf ball into a hole all the way on the other side of this field, we're not professionals so let's say the person who gets it into the hole with having to hit the ball the least amount of times, gets a point. " We both nodded at his explanation, Lapis began to speak as I examined my golf Club, I could faintly hear here say

" Why does everything about this have the word golf in it? Was the person that created this that self centered?" Steven shook his head saying " I don't know exactly, but I'd like to think that they found the word golf really fun to say. So they just put it in the names for most of the equipment. " I nodded as I just began listening to the conversation saying " The separate parts of the word golf once put together do sound very satisfying. It is also quite a unique word from my understanding. "

Lapis looked to me and then back to Steven before now looking up as she said " Golf, G-olf, Go-lf. Yeah, it is kinda fun to say. " Steven smiled as he chuckled a bit, once he stopped he started to say " Well, why don't we get started-" He was cut off by his phone buzzing, he immediately answered it turning another way as he started to say " Hey Connie, what's up? Uh-huh, wait what? Pearl found what? Alright I'll be right over. " Seven put his phone away as he started to walk away but turned to us saying " I just got to check something out real quick.Sorry about leaving so suddenly but I'll see if I can comeback! If not I'm sorry! See ya guys later!" He gradually increased the volume of his voice as he walked away.

Once he left Lapis and I both exchanged glances at eachother before she walked towards the field putting the small plastic golf ball holder in the ground then putting her golf ball on it. She then said " Hey Peridot! Care for a bit of a wager?" I chuckled a bit walking toward Lapis as I said " Depends on the wager, I don't want to run into a losing battle. " Lapis confidently said " I bet that I can get my golf ball into the hole in less swings than you can, and if I win you have to come be a model for one of my paintings. "

I looked at her confusingly, I then replied with " You know, you can just ask me that whenever and I'd usually agree right? It's not a very good use of a wager. " Lapis chuckled a bit as she smirked and then said " Oh you'd never agree be a model for the type of painting I'm thinking of. " My face immediately had a deep blush on it as I shouted " Lazuli! I would like to know what type of painting you are referring to!" Lapis then replied with a confidant chuckle and said

" I'm going to paint you, except you're going to be in the likeness of Paulette from Camp Pining Hearts. " I immediately stomped over so now I was close to Lapis and loudly stated " You only did that because you know of my hate towards Paulette! You also mentioned her the last time we watched Camp Pining Hearts! You know she is statistically the wrong choice as a partner for Perry! " Lapis chuckled a bit seemingly at me getting worked up, she then calmly said " I don't know Peri, maybe it doesn't matter that Paulette isn't as good as Pierre. Maybe her and Percy just want to be together because they like eachother. Now what's your end of the wager?"

I thought for a couple of moments, what would be a good use of this? It took me a bit but eventually I responded to Lapis with " Lazuli, if I win you will allow me make modifications to the primitive technology our house was outfitted with. " Lapis sighed but then nodded saying " Just don't give the Coffee maker a gem destabilizer, or anything like that alright? Ever since Amythest told me about the drink it's helped me a lot with getting up early in the morning. " I nodded saying " It's a deal. "

Lapis decided to go first, she pulled her golf Club back, and then swung it forward hitting the ball directly causing it to fly into the air, however when it seemed like it wasn't going to fall onto the ground all of a sudden water from the nearby lake formed into multiple replicas of the golf club that all hit the golf ball one at a time until it fell onto the ground directly next to the hole. I immediately turned to Lapis shouting " Lazuli! That was a clear use of your powers which we didn't even discuss about! Also you formed multiple other golf clubs all of which hit the ball an additional time, wouldn't that be extra swings as well?" Lapis shook her head confidently saying " Nope, it only hit the ground once, at the end. The other clubs were just part of the 1st swing. "

I groaned as I now had to think carefully, no matter what at Lapis would have to have a end total of at least 2 swings, so I'd have to either get it in 1 or tie with her in 2 swings in order to not lose. I don't think my physical ability would be strong enough to hit the ball far enough, or accurate enough as well. However I remembered that the golf club seems to be made of metal! I began to levitate it into the air and rapidly spun it around generating more force until hitting the golf ball with it causing it to zoom through the air, I then sent the club flying after it keeping it in the air while hitting it toward the hole, eventually I was able to remotely swing it landing the golf ball in the hole as I jumped up in excitement saying

" Well, well, well Lapis, I did it in one. You might as well give up. It's literally impossible since you've already made 1 attempt, I can't wait to add a destabilization ray to the doorbell to keep away unidentified intruders!" I turned to look towards Lapis and she didn't seem annoyed at the fact that I won, she looked a bit shocked but then smiled slightly saying " Wow, nice job Peri. Good game. " She then patted the top of my head and I looked down in embarrassment, I now felt ashamed for my gloating. Before I could apologize we heard a loud crash and we could see multiple pods entering the atmosphere and landing in the beach near the temple. My eyes widened as I muttered " W-was Jasper right?"
