Let Go Of The Past

Lapis POV

I was waiting outside of the greenhouse since my students finished up a bit early today, I also wanted to be with Peridot but I didn't want to be rude and interrupt her class. Eventually I looked towards the large clock in the center, it was already 3? Her class should've ended by now, against what I had just thought I opened up the door and walked into the greenhouse. I could see the backdoor was open, that would explain her students leaving without me seeing them, but I walked in to see Peridot standing across from a Ruby explaining something.

I silently stood against the wall making sure I was out of Peridot's sight, I didn't want to interrupt them. After a bit the Ruby sat up thanking Peridot and walked out, Peridot then saw me and smiled warmly asking " How long have you been waiting for me Lapis?" I smiled back saying " Not long, I didn't want to interrupt you though. " Peridot nodded gathering some of her things while saying " Ever since I've well, started to listen to them more everything has been going better. That Ruby stays after a lot for some extra help, so that's why I'm late sometimes. "

I nodded but before I could respond I hear a large crash. I immediately rushed outside looking at what had caused it, and I saw a gem I had never wanted to see again. Jasper, she apparently hadn't gotten the hint that she wasn't allowed here. I didn't think she would want to be here anyways. However I wasn't going to let her stay and harass whatever gem she wanted to, I walked out of the greenhouse and saw Peridot following me, if this got ugly I didn't want to see her get hurt. Even if she doesn't want me to protect her, I have to.

I walked decently close to where Jasper was and said " Jasper, you know you're not exactly welcomed here. You've harassed way too many gems. " Jasper looked over in my direction scoffing, she then said " Listen, I'm not here for you or any of these weaker gems. I heard Steven was back and I wanted another sparing session, what can I say I want another chance with the diamond. " I sighed, this Jasper was better than the one obsessed with power and wanting to stay fused with me, but I still don't feel like she's totally changed.

I stood my ground saying " Well, Jasper. Just because Steven has the gem of a diamond doesn't mean he's your diamond. The diamond you served is long gone, so is the whole concept of blindly following the diamonds! Can't you figure that out!" Jasper looked over towards me chuckling, she started to close the distance between us saying

" Are you really sure about that? Do you even know what's going on in homeworld right now? Just because the diamonds stopped terraforming planets doesn't mean they're not commanding gems with an iron fist. Besides why do you care about what I do? I'm over you, I was right all along, fusion is a tactic to make weak gems stronger and in ours I was the weak gem, so I'm going to get stronger. Besides I'm not even that impressed by your ability now, in fact if the runt behind you really wanted to she could lose control and crush you 3 seconds flat. That's more impressive than any water tricks that you have. "

I now understood that she was talking about Peridot, but that also means she knew about what happened to her? Who could've told her? Before I knew it Peridot walked up towards her now on front of me saying " How do you know about that? Who told you?" Jasper smirked a bit and coldly said " Steven did, he just visited me yesterday to make sure I wasn't up to as he called it ' evil stuff ' and he brought it up. I was really impressed, especially for an era-2 gem being able to do that. I don't think any other Peridot could do that either they're too textbook, too caught up in kneeling for yellow diamond to unleash that sorta power. "

I could tell what she was saying was messing with Peridot a bit, I knew Peridot knew that she didn't need that sorta power but Jasper complementing her about it seemed enticing to her. I quickly stepped in saying " Well, it wasn't healthy for her when she was using that power Jasper. Besides look around you, there's no war going on here! We don't need soldiers, and I hope we never will need soldiers. " Jasper chuckled a bit as if she was hiding something, she then coldly said

" You don't get it, do you? The Crystal Gems were a rebellion against homeworld to protect Earth, however now that there's peace do you understand what you've done? A lot of soldiers like me are gonna' be repurpoused, homeworld does that to gems that don't have a purpose in the current era, but if a war starts then soldiers are needed again. " Peridot shook her head confidently saying " Even the Crystal Gems back then caused home worlds supplies to be stretched thin, so much so that both yellow and blue diamond had to personally attack us. At a wedding no less! I doubt they're going to be eager to start another war so soon"

Jasper was a bit confused at the wedding part but she shook her head saying " The diamonds aren't going to start another war, the soldiers are gonna start one. From what I heard being repurposed is not a good time at all, so what if they started proving their worth by conquering planets in the name of homeworld without the diamonds asking them to. " My eyes widened, no way was Jasper about to threaten Earth right when it was just starting to he peaceful and beginning to heal again.

I stepped forward putting my finger against Jasper's chest saying " Jasper if you think for a second we're going to let you and some other soldiers start a invasion on Earth I'll beat you right here and now. " Jasper confidently smiled not phased by Lapis' threat as she started to say " I'm not taking a part in that, all of the strong gems are here on Earth, they're no good to me shattered. I want to personally make them know who's really the strongest, including you two. "

I sighed for a moment, I suppose Jasper having a rivalry against us was better than her trying to shatter us in an invasion, however I tilted my head slightly saying " how do you know what the soldiers were planning?" Jasper simply said " Well, the other soldiers sent me an offer to join them. I laughed in their faces and declined it, but I've been friendly here long enough. If Steven isn't in this disgusting friendly place I'll go look elsewhere. " she said walking off towards the beach chuckling.

I still don't believe Jasper saying she wouldn't join them if they were to invade Earth, in fact I wanted to make sure she wouldn't. I raised my hand to form a water arm but before I could do anything Peridot grabbed my arm saying " Lapis, don't. It's not worth the trouble, sometimes we've just got to let go. " I slowly let my arm fall saying " Fine, I don't exactly trust her though. "
