Daniel POV
School was over and I was going home. Akaki left before the bell rang for dismissal and the teacher was yelling at her but she didn't care.
Was all that she said true? Was it really my fault that I didn't make time for Inaya that she became like this? I was walking on the street when I saw a small redhead talking to a grown man who looked like a gangster. I walked closer and recognized that it was Inaya. What is this girl doing talking with a stranger? Suddenly two people ran at an amazing speed and one of the two grabbed Inaya, while the other was fighting with the man. I recognized the grown man he was a cold blooded gangster that the police was looking for.
Then the one that stayed behind was punching the grown man. What was happening? How can a non-musclar person bring down a big grown man by themself.
I rushed unnoticed to where Inaya was taken and I saw the two. Inaya was talking to the guy but I couldn't see his face since he had his hood on.
"Oh, you are the mister from last time right? The one that followed me." What! She was being followed and she didn't tell me or dad about it. "What are you doing here, why were talking to that man. He could have hurt you or worse kidnapped you!" The hooded guy said. "I was looking for you because I wanted to meet you again. I was asking around and that man said he knew you."
"He was lying! Little girl, the streets isn't somewhere you should be. The streets are full of gangsters and bad people like me, we were born in the streets and we fight to survive. You have to go home." He told Inaya.
"You aren't a bad person because you saved me from the bad guy. Why do you live on the streets?" She asked. Doesn't Inaya know not to talk with strangers? What is in her head right now? This guy is clearly saying he is a gangster and she doesn't believe it. "I'm in the streets because I was born here with no one who can take care of me. Now go home, you have people at your house that care for you and you are talking to gangster."
"I don't want to go home!" She yelled. "If you don't want to, then I'm gonna take you." The guy said while picking her up.
I was about to intervene when the guy that beat up the grown man appeared.
"Homura, we have to get her out of here. She is becoming stubborn and won't listen." The guy said. Wait, what? Homura as in the female gangster that was attacking people. She is a wanted criminal too. What will they do with Inaya?
"Let's go" the gangster Homura said. I grabbed a wodden thick stick and planned to attack them from behide. But the guy with the hood noticed me and moved Homura away and he got hit instead.
The female gangster fell and she saw me. She growled and went to check on her friend. Inaya saw me and she started trembling, "Homura run!" She said.vWhat is she saying, why is she protecting a gangster?
She didn't listen and she approached me at full speed. I was able to dodge her first move but eventually I got pinned down to the floor. "What the hell is wrong with you!" She yelled. "I'll arrest you for kidnapping a girl and for all the people you attacked!" I growled. "Attacked? Look who is talking, the one who sneaked behide us and hit my friend." She said, her voice sounded familiar.
She raised her hand and turned it into a fist. She was about to punch me when Inaya yelled, "Akaki stop!" My eyes shot open, did she just say Akaki. Why is she a gangster and who is the guy I hit? What is going on. Homura looked at Inaya and I grabbed her and turned her around and I took off her mask. She didn't look like Akaki, here eyes and hair were different. I tried to touch her but she flinched and kicked my stomach. She tried to run but i grabbed her leg and she tripped. The guy that was unconscious woke up and saw me. He punched me but I ran up to him and hit him against the wall. The guy grabbed my arms and turned me around facing Inaya. Homurq got up and raised her fist, I waited for the impact but I only felt wind brush my face.
"I guess it's over." She said
"Run!" Inaya yelled and Homura looked at her. "He would need to know sooner or later." The guy who was holding me let me go. I didn't know what to do, if she was Akaki I had to arrest her because she hurted people. Why do i feel guilt just thinking about arresting her?
"Let's go Homura." The guy said but I stopped them. "We need to talk, and I don't want no lame excuse. We are going to my house and talk now." I ordered.
We walked home and my dad saw us. He didn't look surprised and I got angry. "You knew she was a gangster! Why didn't you tell me!" Inaya ran up to get room and I heard her cry.
My dad sighed, "Look at what you have done. How do you expect me to tell you when this is your first reaction! Like I have told you many times, you wouldn't understand. You handcuffed them as if they were criminals!"
"But they are criminals, they hurted people!"
"Do you really have that little faith in your classmates! Do you really think that they are criminals! You have to open your eyes and see that not everyone is bad!"
"Uncuffed them." He ordered. I can't believe he knew that he was bringing someone dangerous to the house. "I'm not go-" before I could finish Homura said, "He doesn't have to because we already did."
I turned around to look at them and they dropped their handcuffs to the floor.
I tried to approach the guy that still had his hood on but Homura moved in front of him.
"Tell me who is that." I said. "Nope, if you want to arrest someone let it be me." I sighed and looked at her, "Did you threatened my dad so he wouldn't tell me about you?" My dad wanted to explain but Homura went first, "Yes, I threatened him. What you gonna do about it? Does that tempt you to arrest me even more, Officer Hiro."
I got mad and balled my hand into a fist, "Why are you doing these things? You are a girl!"
She got mad, "So what if I'm a girl, that doesn't mean I can't do what guys do! I'm a girl who trained herself to become stronger, a girl who killed the weak part of herself, I'm a girl who is only trying to survive in this unfair world!"
"Why didn't you at least tell me before I found out that you were Homura."
"Are you serious right now? Daniel are you joking or are you stupid? Use your brain for a moment, I'm tired of repeating myself." I stayed quiet, "What was the first thing you did when you knew I was Homura?"
"Right you cuffed me up. And what did you want me to say, oh hey Daniel guess what, I'm the gangster that the whole police department is looking for Homura. Please don't arrest me." She said in a mocking voice. I turned to look into her eyes, the light that I use to see in her is gone. It was as if she was a different person. The girl who I used to annoy sometimes, the girl that smiled to her friends and the girl who talks back and is kind is gone. I only see hatred and bloodlust in her eyes.
"Why did you become a gangster?" I asked. She stayed emotionless, "Because people like us who don't have a family, are born in the streets. The people who only want to be free make the streets their home. You wouldn't understand the hardships of a person who was born in the streets. You wouldn't understand because you have a family but you don't even appreciate that."
I'm not appreciating my family? Is it because I don't understand Inaya? "But why do you hurt people?"
Homura laughed as if what I have said was a joke, I looked at my dad and he looked angry. "Do you really think I hurt people for no reason? If you would have done your research of this female gangster you would have made connection and figured it out like your dad. Your other police officer friends are the same, they believe I'm just a criminal who hurts people, just like everyone thinks Kaitou is a criminal."
"Then what about the man you beat up almost to death in broad daylight in March?"
Homura looked at my dad, "That man had raped 8 women and nobody had any clues of where he was. Akaki was suppose to be the 9th victim but the guy didn't know she was a gangster. She beated him up and the police only saw that she was hurting him."
"What about the businessman in April? He wasn't a bad person he only worked to maintain his family."
"You really believe that sh*t he said in television? Wow." Homura said with annoyance. "The businessman job was just an undercover. He was actually a drug dealer that helped transport drugs. Homura went as an undercover but unfortunately she was caught by him and she went to far with the hits. A civilian recorded it and made it appear as if she was the attacker." My dad explained.
I turned to look at Homura, "I help and hurt, people just believe what they want to believe. They judge people for what they think they know." I felt guilty for judging her for something she was only trying to help.
I turned to look at the guy who still had his hood on, "Hey dude, are you just gonna let a girl take the blame for you. You're really a coward." I said. Homura got mad and lifted me up while she gripped my shirt.

Her gaze was as if she wanted to kill. So was it true when Chloe said she was aggressive. "What the hell did you just call me midget!" The guy said. I turned to look and it was Mamoru. "Oh so it's you." I said, Homura put me down and glared at her cousin. "You just had to sit still and look mysterious but you just had to say something back to this short ass boy."
She sighed, "We're leaving. If you think your pride as a police officer is being tainted then arrest me only and if you're not going to, then don't speak to me at school. Just think of it as if we were strangers again." With that she left with her cousin and I looked at my dad. He looked disappointed in me. I heard Inaya coming down the stairs and glaring at me and she went up again.
"That punk has helped people in this town and we as police officers have judged her for just the way she handled things. The way she does things isn't right but she doesn't harm good people. Go talk to Inaya she must be angry." He said and I looked at him weird. "Do you expect me to talk to her when right now she is probably waiting for me with a knife in her hand." My dad glared at me and I went upstairs. I knocked on her door and she told me to go away. I opened the door and she threw a pillow at my face. She was glaring with tears in her eyes. "Leave me alone." She growled. "Inaya, I'm sorry. I just wanted a better town or at least place for you. I didn't want you to know what evil meant."
"Daniel, you know what world I was born in. You know what kind of world I was raised in. How do you expect me to just forget about it?"
"I just wanted to make you forget those painful memories. I wanted you to be happy and I wanted you to be naive in what is evil."
"Daniel, I understand your intentions but I can't be naive forever. It is better to open my eyes earlier before it's too late and I get hurt. Akaki didn't have a happy life, she may smile but everything is fake. She needs help but not from someone who will judge her but someone who is willing to understand her. You hurted her feelings just like you did with Kaitou." I approached her and hugged her, Inaya was right I can't keep her naive at how the world is truly about. She learned that and she is learning, I hurted people's feeling because I was too judgy about bad people.
"Inaya did you have a brother when you were taken from your mom?"
She nodded, "How was he like?" She smiled but I could sense that she was sad, "He had green beautiful eyes, orange red hair. A very caring and protective guy, he was always there for me. When it was my birthday, he always went out the house to buy a small cake. He never forgot one of my birthday's and if he couldn't get a cake he took me out to see the world. When he left one day the police came. I told the police that my brother was out there but they never found him. Till this day I'm waiting for him to come through a door with his arms open and hug me like he always did."
She cried and cried and the only thing I could do was hug her. She was feeling pain that she couldn't see her brother anymore, she was always hoping for him to come and take her. She is wishing everyday for him to hug her. She slowly went to sleep and I left the room. My dad was listening and he saw me. "She must really miss him." He said. "The day I took her, I went everyday to check if a boy with red head appeared. I didn't see him and the last day I saw him, he came up to me and said 'Take care of her until I become stronger.' With that he left and that's also the reason I adopted her."
"Why didn't you tell her? Where is he now?" I asked .
"Because I wanted to see what that boy would become. The look he had in his eyes 2 years ago was determination."
"Wait, you seen him, does he know? Why isn't he coming to see her? Doesn't he know that the longer he takes the more pain Inaya is in."
"He probably thinks she doesn't want to see him. I still don't know if he is for sure though." My dad smiled. He walked away and went to his room.
