"I refuse," Haru blatantly turned down the offer. He basically hated the new guy's guts, so it wasn't exactly a surprise for you as you lounged on your chair, head thrown back as you prevented yourself from dozing off. "How about you, L/n?" The chief asked, hoping that unlike your co-worker, you'd say yes. "A'ight. It'll be fun teaching him my methods as well," you just replied, already wanting this conversation to get over with.

"Well, that settles it! L/n, you're now appointed as Mr. Kambe's instructor," he cheered, glad that this was now out of the list of things that he needed to take care of. "Wait!" Haru butted in, hoping that this whole thing wasn't finalized yet. He can't have that Kambe tainting you with his dirty methods when it comes to solving things! "Don't ya worry, Haru. You have a special place here in my heart so you don't need to worry about being replaced," you said, waving your hands lazily.

"I.. I never s-said-" But he already stopped himself before he could say anything else that would most probably embarrass him. He knew that with your answers, you were already dead set on accomplishing your task so he couldn't exactly do anything else to change your mind. Haru just hoped that that bastard wouldn't influence you to do the same thing he does.

The door opened, only to reveal the man that was being talked about just awhile ago. "Ah, Mr. Kambe!" The chief greeted him with enthusiasm. "Have a seat over there next to L/n! She'll be your instructor starting now," he announced. "Yo," you said casually, and he just nodded at you before doing what he was asked to do. "Y/n! Want one?" Your pink-ette colleague asked you, holding a bag of gummies in front of you. You just nodded before holding your hands out.

"Oh! The snapper one! How lucky.." But once she noticed that there was none left in the bag, she apologetically glanced at the newly-employed male. "Sorry Mr. Kambe! It seems that Y/n got the last one," though even with that saddening news, he just waved her off, letting her know that it wasn't that much of a problem for him.

"Ah, I was planning to eat it later, but here," you passed him the jelly wrapped in plastic and he just took it from your outstretched hand wordlessly as he examined the packaging. "I knew that you were rich but for you to not know what that is.. Poor guy," you just shook your head off at him. "It's Yokan! That's one of the last two from my stock so please savour the taste."

And once you heard the small 'thanks' that came from him, you lazily simpered and waited for his reaction. Once he took a bite of it, his eyes widened, and that was enough for pride to swell up in you. It wasn't like you made it or something, but the fact that its deliciousness was getting known was enough for you to feel slightly accomplished.

"Great, isn't it? I'd give ya more but this is for my boy Haru," and just as you said his name, you called out for him, who instantly turned his head the moment that you did and threw the treat at him which he skillfully caught. "Think of me as you eat it!" You mouthed at him, and the light flush of pink on his cheeks was enough to make you chuckle. Who knew that Yokan was enough to make him blush.

A shout from your blonde friend startled you, making you jump a little bit from your seat. "Shut up, Kamei," Haru scolded his friend, exasperated at the noise he created. "It says that the gravure idol Akiko Hoshida died from drug overdose," Kamei said as he pointed at the screen, shock evident from his tone.

"Seriously?" And Haru remained indifferent, though he still said his condolences to the aforementioned female's family. "Wait, didn't you say that you liked her before? What's with the attitude," Kamei just deadpanned at the man next to him. You entered their conversation as you said,  "Ohhh, Haru liking gravure models? That's new! I remember her company scouting me from before.. I wonder if I accepted, will photos of me be collected by you?"

"Of cou- Wait, something like that happened to you? Why didn't you tell me?" And he only hoped that you didn't notice his slip-up. If you did, you didn't say anything more and just shrugged off, using your hand to support your head as you tried to keep your exhaustion from overtaking you. "You didn't ask." Was what you only answered.

"Ohhh! I'll be your number one fan if you become one!" Kamei shot you a thumbs up and you returned it with your free hand. Haru slapped the back of Kamei's head, nagging him about work indecency or something. But let's face it, he just wanted an excuse to do that to the blondie for saying those words.

"Chief, I'm going to the theft prevention program," Haru volunteered, before glancing at you to ask if you would come. "Nah." You just wanted to do nothing all day, was that too much to ask? "Didn't you say that you didn't like not doing anything? What happened to that?" Oh, he was now questioning your morals.

"You were purposely denying my help. It's only natural that I'd feel more inclined to defy you." And though you denied already, he was now dragging you as you two finally were out from the main office. Grunting, you would've flipped this dude on his back if only he wasn't your dearest friend.

As you two walked, you sensed someone behind you. And even without turning back to look and see who it was, Kambe was the only one who came into mind who would do something such as this. Though, it seemed that Haru wasn't as laid back as you were, seeing that he became much aggravated even though Kambe was just following you two without a meek. Wait- weren't you his instructor now? Perhaps you shouldn't have left him just like that..

"What are you doing?"

"I'm joining you two."

Grabbing you by the arm, he kept his hold on you and walked faster. "We can do this with just the two of us." And even though Haru said that, Kambe kept walking in tow with you two, with him steps behind. Finally fed up, he turned his head to the newbie and said, "That's to say, don't tag along."

"Take me to the crime scene, Inspector Kato. And Inspector L/n, weren't you tasked with being my instructor?" And as soon as he said that, you coughed before removing Haru's hold on you and walking straight towards the male who had said that.

"Of course, of course. I'm just testing whether you're aware of your surroundings," well, ain't that a lame excuse.

As you kept on talking, trying to justify your action of, well, leaving him behind, you failed to notice the smug look that he was giving Haru, leaving the latter to grit his teeth.
