"I'm out. I don't really like kids," you were waving your hand to say goodbye, and was about to leave the park until the kid started crying.

Did you have even a single ounce of care? Not really. Plus, you'd met plenty of kids who resorted to crying when whatever they wanted wasn't given to them, so in a way, you were kind of immune to things like this. Thus, you continued walking without looking back.

"Miss, you're useless!" Was that an attempt to hurt your feelings? Because if it was, it sucked, but you couldn't expect anything great coming from runts. An orange munchkin had said things far more insulting, and while there was a comeback that formed inside your head to throw at the kid, you weren't that heartless to do that. Hm, maybe you were? Who knows.

"Been made aware of that long ago," only one more step and you'd really be out of this place.

"I'll make your favorite meal tonight."

Damn you, Haru.

Making a U-turn, you faced the kid with a slightly disgruntled look, feeling utterly disinclined to provide help for something as small as finding a lost dog when the child could just go to his mother, even if she'd nag him, and file for a case to find the missing pet.

Looking down on the kid, you just sighed before reluctantly giving in, "Let's go find that pup." You could have been reading your all-time favorite book instead of hesitantly helping a stranger, but there was free food in return for your assistance so you assumed that it'd be fine if you played along with whatever they were doing for a bit.

"Knew you'd give in!" The kid cockily cheered and your eyes twitched in irritation. So you were right, this kid was emotionally manipulating adults so that they'd give in to their wishes. Kudos to him though 'cause everything was unfolding under his favor.

"You said it yourself that you'd help me, okay? No backing out!" The little squirt pointed at you with a grin. Haru walked to your side and patted your back knowing that you were just pushing yourself to stay and not depart because of his promised grub.

"You may not be aware of it, but your compassion is also a part of you which is driving you to help," he said, but you digressed.

"Shut it. The only thing that's driving me to do this was your food. Might as well give yourself up to me too, y'know, for motivation," you intended to say that as a gag, and you were sure that Haru knew that none of whichever you said was earnest, the first part of your statement being an exception.

But the way he had scrunched his brows, the expression of his being so foreign to you, you hypothesized that something was up with him. Whatever, he's probably growing irked at you for saying suggestive things like that in front of a child so maybe if you stopped, he'd return to normal.

Yeah, that should work.

While the kid was still yapping about promises and shit, Kambe had cut in asking where the kid's house was. When he was speaking about the dog teasing the kid, you'd bet your own damn life that the male had no idea about taking care of a dog nor the said animal's behavior.

You sneaked a glance at Haru once more after a few more minutes and the same look was still plastered on his face like a gum that was stuck on someone's hair. Geez, did he woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning for him not to be in a good mood?

And they said women were confusing.

.

.

After promising to the kid that you and Haru would still help him (with you still feeling quite reluctant to have your fate be intertwined with the grade-schooler.)

"Gosh, I got caught up with a troublesome kid," Haru said wearily as you walked by his side. It's a good thing that he's feeling emotionally better now than awhile ago.

"Told ya two that we could've just left the kid alone." You did suggest that when there was a discussion ongoing, but Haru slapped that recommendation away as soon as you said it. You tried to help and offered the best possible solution that you could think of, but none had been implemented like how you wanted it to. The dog could've gotten run over by a car with the ankle-biker not even knowing that tragedy happened to his pet.

You had taken note of Kambe's presence before Haru did, so you approached him before Haru could get the chance to, "Hiya, darling."

The trio walked on the footpath.

"I'm sorry, you two were on leave today, but I asked you two to come out, so I'll do the rest alone," Haru apologized for disrupting you two's schedule for the day. "You thought that I helped you for free?" You interjected, reminding Haru of what he had promised you before he had the opportunity to fail to recall.

"I know, i know, I didn't forget about my promise," Haru ruffled your hair. Wait, ruffled? This was a first time indeed. You were so accustomed to him hitting the back of your head instead of him treating you with affection.

Haru just kept on getting weirder and weirder.

As you three walked past the convenience store, Kambe's stomach grumbled. "Shall we eat before we go?" Haru asked when he heard his colleague showing signs of anger which was indicated by the rumbling.

"No."

"You must be waiting to go back to that huge mansion to eat steak. We'll go now," Haru took hold of your arm and led you to him. "No." Kambe's one word answer once more. Haru stopped, prompting you to do the same thing or else your face would've collided with your friend's back.

"What do you mean?" You asked this time. "I don't have money." That almost made you do a double-take. Never in your 25 years of living had the image of this man being penniless entered through your mind. Mayhaps this was one of the signs of an incoming apocalypse soon to hit this world?

"Here, take this," you pulled money from your wallet and handed it over to him. He was about to take it, but something caught his eye and caused it to enlarge. You whipped your head towards where he looked at and saw the words displayed on the LED screen of the store.

"Waiting for your return, Suzue."

'So he fleed his mansion?' The thought enough was humorous. If he did, he'd just be like a kid escaping their house because of a tantrum. Let me guess, with someone as affluent as him, it may be due to a petty reason like him not liking the breakfast served.

Or-

"Thank you, but I'm not going to accept it. I can't go back home," Kambe lightly shook his head and pushed the bill back to your side.

"What about this, would you like to come over to Kato's house with us?"

"Eh?" Haru wanted Kambe to find the idea too preposterous for him to accept.. He had proffered earlier that he'd cook dinner for you because he knew that with that, he could hang out with you. But at the same time, his conscience wouldn't let him rest if he had let a man without money venture on the streets he wasn't used to alone.

Was it so bad for him to wish to spend more time with you?
