(Y/N) POV - 3332 words

Gon and Kurapika are running up the path towards the cluster of applicants. They made it here just in time. They walk through the throng of applicants, still huffing and puffing from their mad dash through Swindler's Swamp. From a distance, I hear Gon ask, "Where's Leorio?"

I feel a flash of Hisoka's aura, a signal to Gon, who whirls to face the clown. Gon rushes over to where Leorio has been leaned against a tree, dazed, with his face badly bruised. I stand from my place against the wall, Korako with me, and we walk over. Killua's not far behind.

"Gon," he says to the greenbean, "I was starting to think you weren't going to make it here."

I roll my eyes. He sounds so pretentious. I decide against shedding light on the fact he was worried about them not five minutes ago. Gon and Killua begin talking with the latter expressing how strange he finds Gon. It's not exactly a compliment, but I don't think it's an insult either. Just then, Satotz begins speaking, drawing Gon's attention, "Excellent work, everyone! The Second Phase will take place here, in the Visca Forest park. So I shall now take my leave. I wish you all the best of luck."

Everyone watches as his form retreats back down the path we took here. The gates behind us open with a great rumble, returning everyone's attention back to the task at hand. We all wait with bated breath to see what lies behind the gates, the setting where the Second Phase of the Exam will take place.

"Will all the applicants who passed the First Phase please enter?" A feminine voice calls, ringing loud and clear across the courtyard. As I walk through the gates, I find a woman wearing a sheer top over a tight-fitting black bra and very short shorts. She's sitting with her arms over the back of a red settee with an incredibly large, round man sitting behind her.

"Welcome, all!" she exclaims, "I'm Menchi, your examiner for the Second Phase."

"And likewise, I'm Buhara," the man behind her interjects. A loud gurgling sound washes over all the applicants as the crowd begins whispering. The source of the sound is Buhara's stomach, which seems to be craving some food.

"Well, there you have it," Menchi says, standing, "Your Second Phase, will be cooking!"

I don't understand the looks of anticipation on the other applicant's faces when she was about to announce what our Second Phase would be. Shouldn't they have known it would be something to do with food, Menchi just said it had something to do with Buhara's hunger. Everyone seems so confused as well. Haven't they ever heard of Gourmet Hunters? Menchi's one of the most famous of them, classically known for having a palate very few can attest to satisfying.

"What do you mean, we're cooking? We came here to take the Hunter Exam," the man called Todo says, clearly agitated. Menchi, to her credit is taking this all spectacularly. If she's known for anything other than her refined tastes, it's for her temper.

"Because we're Gourmet Hunters," Menchi declares, proud of her profession. She should be proud, there's no reason she shouldn't be. Clearly, I'm alone in my opinion as everyone else around me begins laughing.

"Talk about a let down!" Todo replies, only riling the crowd up more. Menchi begins to let her anger show, the applicants simply ignoring her. Buhara gives his coworker a concerned look, knowing her habits. I feel a chill down my spine, like I'm being observed. I discreetly glance around. Hisoka's, for once, not eyeballing Gon and everyone else is too busy laughing at the Examiners to pay any attention to us twelve-year-olds. It must be someone outside of the examinee pool. I turn around, looking back out of the gates, tracking the feeling until I spot Satotz sitting in a tree with binoculars.
