Valley went to lunch that day with a blank, indifferent expression on her face. She sat next to Cedric, and folded her hands in her lap, staring at the table.

"Valley? Are you alright?"

She looked into his eyes, and he frowned, pulling her close to him.

"I'm going to kill him. Then you'll have your soul back, and you'll be okay. I promise, Val. I swear."

Valley sighed, and buried her face in his shoulder. She knew the assembly was going to happen today. They were leaving. She relaxed, and felt a single tear escape her eye. She was mere hours away from escape, and days away from death.

"We have to kill the Demon..."

"I know. We will."

Cedric brushed her hair away from her face, and kissed the top of her head.

"I'm sorry, Val. I know and feel your pain, I honestly do. I'm so sorry," he whispered in her ear. She nodded, and shifted her head so that she could meet his gaze.

"It's time to leave for your room, Miss Marcey. You won't be going to the assembly today."

Valley paled, and stood up, understanding that the Demon was going to kill her today. She walked to the door, gave Cedric one last look, and was escorted to her room.
