They found a dead body. I couldn't put the thought aside. There were police inside Sullivan, investigating a crime. It was the first time in the history of this institution that such lawlessness occured.
Who could do such crime? In a place like Sullivan? Where security is as tight as Malacañang because of the status of its students?
"Anong sabi ng mga pulis?"
Sinalubong ng tanong ni Ylissana si Jared na kakapasok lang. Nandito kaming lahat sa tambayan nila ni Timothy at Mikael sa university. It's a lone wide room malapit sa mini-forest.
All of us were in absolute shock at hindi pa rin makapaniwala sa nangyari.
"Voluntary manslaughter. Posible daw na walang intensyon ang suspect para patayin ang biktima originally. He was trying to do something else but the situation made him resort to killing," paliwanag niya.
Walang nagsalita sa amin. Lahat pinag-iisipan ang mga sinabi ni Jared. None of us knew the victim personally kaya mahirap magsabi kung ano ang maaaring pinagmulan nito.
"But the police called for further investigations. Wala pang sigurado," dagdag niya.
"Sullivan was a safe place for how many decades! How can it be turned into a crime scene in just a snap?" wika ni Ylissana, sounding like the whole situation was absurd.
Well it really was.
Nakatayo ako paharap sa nakabukas na pintuan kung kaya't tanaw ko ang kaunting estudyanteng naglalakad sa labas. I was only looking at them senseless when my eyes spotted the guy I saw outside the shower room.
Hindi ko alam kung bakit pero nakaramdam ako ng matinding pagtutulak para kausapin siya. I saw how Timothy looked at me and curiously followed my gaze through my peripheral vision.
Mabilis kong tinahak ang labas para sundan ang estudyanteng pakay ngunit mabilis ring nakahabol si Timo para pigilan ako. He held my arm tightly.
"Thally, NO," matigas na pahayag nito sa isang seryosong mukha.
Namataan ko ang paglabas rin ng iba at paghinto sa likod nito, nagtatakang pinapanuod kami maliban kay Mikael na blangko lamang ang ekspresyong ipinapakita.
"Let go of me, Timo. Do you even know what I'm trying to do?"
"I don't know what your business with that guy but I won't let you talk to him right now," he answered, full of determination, while eyeing the student I desired to follow.
Nilingon kong muli ito before he entered the IT building and vanished out of sight.
"Do you know that guy?" I asked, confused with how he was acting.
"No, and this is not the proper time to get to know him. He's a possible suspect sa nangyari kanina," paliwanag niya.
"And so? He's innocent until proven guilty," I spoke with conviction.
"I don't want you to get involved!" he retorted. "He's been acting weird lately and is being questioned by the police. They might summon you for questioning too once they find out you're connected to that man," his voice stern.
I clenched my jaw before heaving a sigh. I know I shouldn't get irritated by that because my brother was just protecting me. But he didn't need to treat me like a baby who cannot speak! For Pete's sake I can face the police and answer their questions if that happens. It's not as if I was guilty.
Bago pa ako makasagot ay lumapit na si Jared sa amin.
"Tama ang kapatid mo, Thalia. Ipagpaliban mo muna ang pakikipag-usap sa iba maliban sa amin sa ngayon," aniya.
