I wasn't laying on the ground anymore, or in Marco's arms for that matter. Whatever I was laying on was soft, and light. If I didn't know any better, I'd say I was tucked away safely in my bed. But I knew that couldn't be possible, so instead of continuing to guess, I forced my eyes open.
Everything was extremely bright but my eyes adjusted quickly.
Then I realized I was laying on a gurney, in an ambulance, in my school's parking lot. And every inch of my body hurt, especially my back. When I tried to sit up, my head spun around me so fast that I feared I might pass out again. Or throw up. Either way I decided it was best to continue laying down until my organs caught up with my mind.
But then I heard voices talking heatedly, right in front of the ambulance. I lifted my head up so I could see who the gruff voices belonged to, and that's when I saw Marco standing there. Speaking with Arnold, who looked beyond pissed off. Damn it. My bodyguards were going to get in trouble again because of some freak accident.
So I decided I had to set everything straight.
Ignoring the nauseous feeling spreading throughout my body, I pushed myself up until I was sitting straight. But neither Marco or Arnold noticed me, thus continuing their argument without sparing me a glance.
"What do you mean you didn't see what happened?" Arnold interrogated, massaging the bridge of his nose.
Marco had his arms crossed tightly over his chest, causing his arms to flex and bulge unbelievably, "I'm sorry sir. Luke and I weren't there when the car exploded. And by the time we got there, Toni was unconscious and Harmony followed soon after."
But Arnold was glaring at Marco by now, his entire face twisting with fury, "If you weren't with your client then where the hell were you Marco?"
I saw Marco sigh before he slowly opened his mouth, hanging his head.
But it was my voice that answered Arnold's questioned, "They were checking the perimeter."
Arnold and Marco snapped their heads to look at me as I swung my feet off the gurney. But it was Marco that rushed to my side and held my shoulders tightly in his grasp as he smiled in relief, "Thank God you're awake, I knew you'd be fine. You're a tough girl."
I smiled back at him, but the movement caused pain to dance across the right side of my face. Gently I reached my fingers up to my temple, my fingers meeting a strange and foreign feeling as I began to search for a mirror to look in.
"There's only a few stitches." Marco explained, clearly seeing the confusion washed over my countenance, "There was some broken glass stuck in the side of your head that the paramedic's had to remove. But don't worry, you still look just as beautiful princess."
I felt my cheeks blush as my eyes dropped. Then I used Marco to help me stand, most of my body leaning on his. He practically carried me out of the ambulance and over to where Arnold was watching me carefully, concern etched in every feature.
"Are you alright Miss Harmony?" Arnold questioned quickly. But when I nodded he switched gears and I saw the anger seep back into his movements again, "What do you mean when you say that they were checking the perimeter?"
Marco tensed beside me, I could feel his body going rigid against mine. But he had nothing to fear because I wasn't going to let him get hurt again, "Luke and Marco left the school first. They were checking the perimeter of the parking lot and were then going to meet back up with Toni and I at the car. But Toni thought it'd be safer for us to wait for them in the car instead of standing out in the open. But when she turned the key there was a click, then a few beeps, then...boom."
