"You should've just taken the day off." Darcy's monotonous voice breaks the silence I have kept between us since the car ride home.

"If you took the day off, none of this would've happened since you're clearly ignoring for the whole week." He continues to babble and looks at me with keen eyes before looking back at the road.

"I'm not ignoring you." I retorted back at him.

He scoffs, "Yes you are."

"No, I'm not." I repeated.

"Did I ignore you whenever you talked to me? No." I said while looking at him, practically rolling his eyes at me.

"We're not working together, so I don't owe you any conversations that are irrelevant to work, so stop whining about it like a child." I flatly told him and looked back at the road, not letting my temper get the best of me.

"Besides, you could've just made an excuse so you're not the one accompanying me home." I quietly muttered while looking at the passing buildings.

"I don't make petty excuses." He spats, looking at me as he speaks.

"Plus, I don't need Hugh to stress about something that could've been handled responsibly if someone chose the right decision in the first place." He continues, obvious that he was putting the blame on me.

I huffed and didn't reply back. Maybe it was a bit irresponsible of me, but I'm not saying that out loud.

The rest of the ride home was filled with tensed air and an excruciating amount of uncomfortable silence, so the moment we arrived, I was washed with a huge wave of relief.

Mr. Darcy opened the door for me and I muttered a quick thank you. We walked side by side with a huge gap between us (Thank God), not muttering a single word. We reached the front door to my house with a high anticipation of him finally leaving.

"Thank you for accompanying me home, it wasn't really necessary but thank you." I said, not knowing how I should act 'comfortably' with him. I just can't.

"Get some rest and don't even try to work." He reminds me, as if I don't already know my responsibility.

"I won't." I simply said, giving him some kind of assurance.

There was a quick pause in conversation before he looks at me straight in the eyes with his Emerald eyes. I was left breathless for this quick silence, my stomach twisting and turning as he kept his eyes locked into mines.

"I'm serious." He earnestly tells me.

"And I'm serious too." I muttered, my heart racing once again.

Our distance isn't as close as before but feeling his breath against my skin, hearing his heartbeat clearly upon my ears, gives me a reason to be lost at words.

Oh for Christ's sake.

"Good." He says, satisfied. "I'll see you tomorrow, Ms. Bennett." He bids me a goodbye before leaving the porch, acting as if nothing happened.

What a confusing man.

I shook my head to get rid of this funny feeling. I didn't even wait for him to get back in the car and drive off, I was too bewildered with his repeated actions and what it's doing to my sanity.

My thoughts consumed the better part of me, not realizing that it started heavily raining outside. Anxiety quickly washed over my whole system as I thought about Mr. Darcy and his safety back home, even if, God forbid, I don't even want to give him a single ounce of my care.

"Just for this one time, Anna...to keep it fair." I thought to myself, assuring that this will be the first and the last time that I'm doing this.

I quickly took my phone from my bag and was about to contact him until a knock was heard. My feet rushed to the door and opened it without hesitation.
