James and Jalin hid behind James' car. They noticed that the shooters stopped and repeatedly shot at Jalin's car and pulled off when sirens began to ring throughout the air. When they came up, they saw Jalin's car was smoking. "Dang, man!!" Jalin yelled, before being pulled back by James who put him in a headlock.

"Do you want them to come back and kill us this time?" He whispered. "Keep it down!" James then let go of Jalin.

"I just paid this car off! I been paying it since I was sixteen!" Jalin whisper-yelled.

"You could've been in there. Is that really what you are worried about?" James whispered. "Get in the car!" He said as he unlocked his car. Him and Jalin hopped in. That's when he noticed Jalin was staring off into space. "You alright, son?"

Jalin looked over at James, eyes still wide. "I usually sit in my car to make drops. I only got out because I saw it was you. Everyone knows I never get out to make a drop."

James' mouth dropped. "So they shot at your car thinking you were in there." James looked at the smoking car. "Let's get out of here before that thing blows up or they come back." He said as he cranked up his car. "Give me the directions to your house, I'll drop you off at home."

"But...why would...?" Jalin wondered out loud before telling James where he lived at, to which James simply nodded, knowing where to go.

"Who was you making the drop to?" James asked as he began driving.

"Someone the main weed man sent me out for." Jalin said with a deep sigh, still shaken up by the whole situation.

"Who did you say was your main weed man again?" James asked.

"Russell." Jalin answered, to which James nearly slammed on breaks. "Man, what was that for?!" Jalin asked as he put on his seatbelt.

"Russell, like big Russell? Scarred up face and lazy eye?" James asked. Jalin simply nodded. "Russell is from the Southside, Jalin! He probably sent them boys to kill you! How long you been selling for him?"

"Well...I started selling for him a couple weeks after I got out the hospital when I got jumped over here. He saw me selling on the East and offered to help me double up my money, which he never did. But I didn't know he was from the Southside." Jalin said.

"He been planning this. If I hadn't shown up by way of God's grace, you would've been in that car and..." James said before looking over at Jalin who was doubled over, crying. "Son, that's what God's grace is, this is what it feels like." James said as he rubbed Jalin's back to comfort him.

As James turned onto Jalin's street, he saw fire trucks where spraying down the flames of a house. "Jalin, who's...."

"My house!!" He yelled as James stopped the car. Jalin jumped out the car and ran up. Firefighters stopped him. "That's my house! That's all I have!!" He yelled.

James parked the car and ran up behind Jalin. "Jalin, let's go to my house, we can't do anything tonight but let the firefighters do their job." He said.

James left his address with one of the firefighters so they knew where to find Jalin so they could tell him about the house once the fire was out. The firefighter nodded as James took Jalin away from the scene and back to his house. He knew this would be too much for Jalin to just watch his home burn to the ground.

James pulled into the yard and got out of the car. Jalin got out, still traumatized by the whole situation. Once James was inside he put his keys down. "Opal is probably asleep. We have a guest room that I used to sleep in when my aunt was still alive. You can sleep there." He said, showing Jalin to the room. "You want me to close the door or leave it open?" James asked.

"Leave it open." Jalin said in a broken voice.

"Come here, son." James said as he held his arms out. Jalin sighed heavily as he walked over and hugged James. He slowly began to break down. "I know you don't want to hear this...but God is going to come through. It doesn't seem like it at all now, but He will. Just try your best to rest some if you can. Tomorrow is Sunday. You don't have to come to church if you don't want to, but if you don't just stay here, okay?" James said to Jalin.

Jalin nodded as he pulled away and walked to the bed. James walked out of the room and left the door opened.

He then walked to his own room and got dressed for bed. As he laid down, he simply said, "God...cover their hearts and their minds. Somehow, let your glory shine a light in their situations. Only You can do it, or it won't be done. In Jesus' name, Amen."

You would think I would stop, but tomorrow is Youth Sunday! I have to keep this going while the getting is good with these ideas. Not much to say here, except I feel so bad for Jalin. Let's see what works out. Stay blessed, love y'all, and see y'all in the next chapter
