Jake came over late today, he and Sam sat on the floor of the blondes room playing video games until Sam heard his name being called from outside. The sun was setting, then he realized Colby would be waiting for him.

He was worried that his parents would hear Colby's calls, they've luckily never seen him as Sam's with him which was a relief. "Hey, uh, Jake?"

His purple haired friend looked over to him, "What's up?"

"D-Do y-you- uhm, so there-" Sam sighed, putting his controller down and taking Jake's before grabbing his hand and pulling him downstairs.

"Sam, wait- where are we going?" Jake asked, Sam didn't answer. He just continued gripping Jake's hand and pulling him down to the beach. When they got there, Sam looked and didn't see Colby anywhere.

"Colby!" He called out, his toes dug into the sand anxiously. "Come on." Sam ran into the water, going as deep as to where it was to his knees. "Colby!"

"Sam, what're you doing? Who's Colby?" Jake was confused at his friends actions, honestly a little concerned at them as well.

"H-He's my friend.. Colby!" Sam felt saddened when his friend didn't come up from the water. He heard his name being called, his window was opened and the call was from the beach. He was almost sure of it.

"Uh, Sam, no ones out here. Especially not in the water.." Jake mumbled, he didn't really know what else to say. His friend was yelling out into the ocean looking for a friend.

"No, he's here. Let's go." Sam went deeper, he stopped at the edge of the reef and went under to look around for his finned friend.

Colby his deep behind a rock, he heard the blonde calling his name repeatedly but he was too scared. He knew he had to tell him he was his soulmate but he didn't know how Sam would act or respond, and that terrified him.

What scared him more was that Sam had a friend with him, it worried him because that's just another human that'd know of his existence. He looked up to see Sam's legs kicking over the reef, he began swimming deeper and leaving the reef.

This was dangerous for Sam, the waves would be too much for him. The undertow would surely take him, Colby swam up quickly. He burst through the water and even scared Sam a little, wrapping his arms around him he dragged the blonde boy towards shore till his foot could touch again.

Jake stood there with his jaw dropped, he almost fainted but he blinked a few times and kept himself upright. "Colby." Sam said softly, "I-I couldn't find you.."

"Sam, that was so dangerous. Things can get you out there, and the undertow-" Colby cut himself off, glancing at Sam's friend and feeling fear once again. "Sam... who's.."

"Oh! Jake come here!" Sam said, swinging his arm a few times to motion his friend towards him. "Colby this is my friend Jake, Jake this is.. Colby. He's a uhm, m-mermaid.." Sam almost laughed at his words, he'd never imagined befriending a mermaid. He didn't even know they were real.

"N-No way.." Jake said, his eyes were still wide with shock. "H-Hi.."

"Hi.." Colby said softly, then his gaze turned back to Sam. "S-Sam.. h-he won't tell will he?"

Sam shook his head no, keeping a smile on his face. "You won't tell, right Jake..? Please, this has to be between us, he'd be in so much danger.." Sam pleaded.

"I won't tell.." Jake said, the other two could tell shock was still among the purple haired boy. He eyed Colby's fin, he didn't want to feel rude for staring but how could you not?

Sam giggled a little, when he did Colby could've melted at the glorious sound. "Don't worry Jake, I did the same thing.."

Colby let Jake touch his fin, Jake joked that it was smily and the finned boy just agreed saying it feels like a regular fish. They all talked for a while, Colby became fond of Jake and the three agreed to see if Colby's friends would meet Jake.

"S-Sam, I, uhm, need to talk to you. P-Privately, though.." Colby said, his voice shook nervously. Sam have Jake a knowing look, the purple haired boy just smiled and walked to shore and sat on the back porch to wait for Sam.

"Everything okay?" Sam asked, his look now showed worry.

"R-Remember h-how I told you.. a-about s-soulmates for m-my kind..?" Colby asked slowly, his arms and hands were shaking with fear as he spoke. Sam nodded, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion at his friend. "W-Well, I found mine..."

Sam eyes widened with happiness, he smiled gleefully but deep down he had a odd feeling he didn't understand. For some reason, Sam felt a bit of sadness. He'd be lying if he said the funny jokes, the getting to know one another, the talks about themselves, the absolute bonding over the past few days didn't make him create feelings for Colby.

"Th-That's amazing.. S-Someone f-from your city?" Sam tried to act cheerful, he didn't want Colby to think he wasn't happy for him.

I'll never have him, it's impossible. He'd never even think of me that way, I'm human. This is absolutely ridiculous, feelings for someone you wouldn't be able to be with unless your in water with him.

Sam's thoughts were eating at him, he wanted to just run inside and lay in bed to cry.

Colby's thoughts were buzzing in his head as well, he took a deep breath before speaking but as he opened his mouth nothing came out. He bit his lip and looked down sadly, "Yeah, their from my city." He chose against telling Sam at the last minute, he knew he'd never be able to have this amazing boy as his.

"I-I'm really happy for you. I have to go, Jake's waiting." Sam said quickly, hugging Colby quickly before rushing out of the water.

"W-Wait, I'll see you tomorrow right!?" Colby called out, fear rushed into his body.

"Yeah!" Sam yelled back, running up the path as tears soaked his cheeks. Jake saw him, rushing to him and frantically asking what was wrong and engulfing him in a hug. "I-I like him, b-but he found someone.. I know.. I know how stupid I am but I didn't mean to fall for him.." Sam cried into Jake's chest, Jake was still processing the creature he'd just met but did his best to comfort a sad Sam.

They went to Sam's room, changing into dry clothes and laying on the bed letting Sam cry a little more. Jake pulled the boy into his chest, they both laid on their sides as Sam buried his face in Jake's chest and continued to cry.

"I love him.." Was the last thing Sam mumbled before drifting asleep in Jake's arms.
