Athena's p.o.v
Dakota and I have been dating for a year now. Jay and Erin are engaged so Im gonna go talk to the corporal about my team and I having a week off to attend the wedding.
Arriving at his office I sit and wait to be called in.
"Stan what brings you here" the corporal asks. "Well sir I come to ask permission for my team and I to leave back for the state's for a week to attend a wedding".  "I don't see why not but I do need to talk to you about something" "what is it" "one second we need to wait for Johnson to get here"  now im worried. He might make Dakota and I brake up. We've been together for a year but things could still change. When Dakota comes in he sits down next to me. "So Stan because of the age you joined at some of the higher ups think you need to go back to school"
"Why" "I wish I knew" that's when Dakota speaks up. "So why am I here"
"Well Johnson they want you to go with her"  "what why do I have to go with her" "you didn't graduate either. Its only gonna be one year you just need to get through senior year then you can come back"  "what about the team"I ask. "Rivers will be in charge until you get back" "alright were will we be going" "we don't know yet""can I ask my parents about schools near them for us to go to" "go ahead" pulling out my phone I text my dads
Me:hey dad I have a question
Dad👑:what is it
Me:so because Dakota and I never finished school we need to go back to finish senior year
Dad🇺🇸:do you need somewhere to stay
Me:yeah also is there any schools we can go to near you
Dad👑:yeah we can enroll you today the school year is gonna start in 2 week though
Me:alright thanks
"So my parent's they said they can get Dakota and I enrolled in school today and that the school starts in 2 weeks" "alright then you two go start packing I will inform the team"the corporal said. Dakota and I leave heading back to the barracks.
"What did he mean by you never graduated" I asked Dakota "when I was 17 I ran away from home. My parents were trying to put me in an arranged marriage. I didn't remember you yet but I knew I was meant for someone else. So in order to not be found I joined. I knew someone who could help me and I took the opportunity."
After that we walked in silence until we reached the barracks. The team wasn't there so we packed our bags quietly. Having finished we layed on our bed waiting for the boys to come back.
When the guys came back they looked sad. They are my brothers even if im coming back its still hard to leave even for only for a year. "Im gonna miss you guys even though it will only be a year" after I say this the guys gather around Dakota and I in a group hug. Then we all just sit on the floor in a huddle with Dakota and I on the middle. Thinking of ways to make the guys smile. I decide to sing. I rarely do it but when ever I do it makes the boys happy and smile.

After words the guys were smiling. "Come on guys don't be so sad I have a surprise for you"  "what is it stan"  luke asks. "Well in October you boys have a week off" "what why" lee asked confused. "Well I talked to corporal and he said it would be fine for the team to head to the states for a week for the wedding" this made the guys even happier. They all met Jay and Erin while I was video calling them and they became friends. Another reason is that they know they will get to see me again. "Come on boys no more crying lets go run" the boys get up to go change. I put on my shorts and sports bra knowing the boys would make jokes about it. Starting the run I start to sing another song and soon all the guys join in.

Said goodbye to his momma as he left South Dakota
To fight for the red, white and blue
He was 19 and green with a new M-16
Just doing what he had to do
He was dropped in the jungle where the choppers would rumble
With the smell of napalm in the air
And the sergeant said...look up ahead
Like a dark evil cloud, 1,200 came down on him and 29 more
They fought for their lives but most of them died in the 173rd Airborne

[Chorus:]
On the 8th of November the angels were crying
As they carried his brothers away
With the fire raining down and the hell all around
There were few men left standing that day
Saw the eagle fly through a clear blue sky
1965, the 8th of November

Now he's 58 and his pony tail's gray
But the battle still plays in his head
He limps when he walks but he's strong when he talks
About the Shrapnel they left in his leg
He puts on a gray suit over his Airborne tattoo
And he ties it on one time a year
And remembers the fallen as he orders a tall one
And swallows it down with his tears

[Chorus]

Saw the eagle fly through a clear blue sky
1965...
On the 8th of November the angels were crying
As they carried his brother away
With the fire raining down and the hell all around
There were few men left standing that day

[Chorus]

Said goodbye to his momma as he left South Dakota
TO fight for the red, white and blue
He was nineteen and green with a new M-16
Just doing what he had to do

I don't know why but running always calmed me down. While we were running I see James running up ahead. Knowing om faster than him I take the opportunity. "On your left"  I say as I pass im. Turning around to look at him he looks pissed but it soon gets better as Dakota runs past and does the same thing. "On your left" soon the whole team is doing it as they pass him. Seeing the smiles on there faces makes everything thing better even knowing what lies ahead.
