"Society is far too caught up in shaming a woman for enjoying sex and applauding a man. I mean, all of the comments are about how Lara Jean is a slut, but nobody's saying anything about Peter, and he's right there with her. It's a ridiculous double standard."
- Margot Song Covey (To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han)

y/n was an absolute mess.
After Sam broke up with her, she never left her room, hardly ate meals, and didn't talk to anyone. Her family and friends were worried about her, but especially Mike. At school, he had been praised for sleeping with her, but y/n was shamed and ridiculed.

It was 6am on monday morning and the sounds of raindrops could be heard pattering against y/n's window. It was as if the universe planned for the weather to match y/n's gloomy mentality. She lay in her bed staring at the ceiling, dreading the school day that was ahead. She couldn't even bare the thought of getting out of her warm bed and facing her schoolmates. She just wanted to disappear into her silk, lilac sheets and forget about the world. She longed to be taken away to a place where no one knew her and she could just start over.

She closed her eyes and tried to sleep, but was interrupted by her mother entering her room and quietly shutting the door behind her. She walked over to y/n's bed and sat herself down by the end of the bed.
"Hey sweetheart, I know you really don't want to go to school today but-"
She stopped and looked down at her daughter, with glossy eyes and tear stained cheeks, she felt terrible for sending her to school.
"But I think it might be good for you to go. I know it's hard, but you can't let people get to you. You know what they're saying isn't true, so why do you give in and let these cruel words poison your mind?"

y/n sniffled and rolled over, facing away from her mother. Mrs. l/n sighed and placed her gentle hand on y/n's leg.
"There are always going to be people who try to break you and convince you that you are not worthy of love, but you are. You can't let them make you think that because you deserve every beautiful thing in your life."
y/n felt tears spill from her eyes and her lips begin to quiver. She turned over to face her mother and gave her a big hug. She always loved getting hugs from her mother, she always smelled of freshly baked cookies and her hugs felt like a warm blanket that would protect her from the world.
"But it's hard mom." She choked and nearly broke her mother's heart with her powerful sobs.
"I know, I know."
Mrs. l/n lightly stroked her daughter's hair and began to softly sing her a song.

La la lu, la la lu
Oh, my little star sweeper
I'll sweep the stardust for you

y/n sobbed loudly and began to shake in her mother's arms. y/n's mother's words came out shaky, but she continued to comfort her daughter.

La la lu, La la lu
Little soft fluffy sleeper
Here comes a pink cloud for you

y/n's mother had always sang this song for her when she was sad or tucking her into bed.
