LOOKING UP AT Caelum, I rolled my eyes. I wasn't expecting things to turn out the way they did, so why was he blowing things out of proportion?
It wasn't my fault—okay, maybe it was partially my fault. Let's say it was completely my fault since I agreed to play that dumb game, but he was at fault too.
I watched as he placed Emery, Clara, and Melanie into the car. They were all dead-asleep, so they couldn't protest on how he had dropped them. Once he was finished, he walked around to the driver's side of the car, yanked the door open before climbing in and slamming it shut.
He turned to me, dark eyes unwavering. I couldn't decipher his expression, which wasn't much of a surprise. "What was that?"
I knew what he was talking about, but I acted dumb. I didn't want to miss any opportunity to mess with him. I shrugged, staring at my newly painted nails. "I don't know what you're talking about."
He scoffed. "Damn right you do."
"It was a dare," I said.
"Next time," he hissed. "Don't try things like that with me."
Okay, chill. What the fuck?
"I asked you to stand still for just one second, didn't I?" I glared at him. "But you refused to, so why are you getting angry?"
"I have every right to be angry," he countered. "Because you fucking used me."
What was he talking about? "I didn't use you, Caelum."
"You did."
"Well, sorry for fucking using you," I said, the annoyance from the fight with Mum coming back in full force. "And fuck you for thinking the fucking world revolves around you."
He chuckled in disbelief. "I don't blame you."
"Blame me for what?" I whipped my head back to face him. "No, what's your issue with me? You don't see me yelling when you treat me like shit, but you want to turn a peck on the fucking lips into a fucking fight?"
I watched as he returned his eyes to the road with clenched jaw. He gripped the wheel firmly and turned on the ignition of the car with his right hand. We exchanged no words after that, and you could imagine how uncomfortable the car ride was. I was genuinely sorry for kissing him since he didn't exactly like it, but give a girl a break.
The slamming of a door brought me back to reality. When I opened my eyes, we were back at the Jensen's and Caelum was carrying his sister into the house.
I whipped my head to the back of the car and I was surprised to see Melanie still sleeping. Did he leave us out here? What about Clara? Well, at least we arrived home safely.
I yawned when I saw him coming back, but said nothing as he dragged Melanie like a sack into the house. I came out of the car a minute later and groaned in pain. I already felt the headache on its way, so I flew into the house, jumped on the makeshift bed in Emery's room, and before I knew it, sleep enveloped me.
The next morning, I groaned loudly as I sat, removing my phone from my bag and checking for any missed calls or messages. There were fifteen new messages and thirty missed calls from mother, and I grinned in satisfaction. I wanted her to feel exactly the way I felt when she didn't pick my calls or return any of my voicemails.
