you guys ate dinner, as usual. occasionally ethan would a snatch a french fry from your plate, but you didn't mind. mark seemed to give ethan a smug look- as if he was expecting something to happen. you pushed it off. usually whatever mark had to say was bullshit. after dinner, you walked upstairs to ethan's room. you sat on his couch and browsed tiktok for awhile, until the door opened. ethan peered in. "hey. whatcha doin'?" ethan queried. you sighed. "i'm just watching tiktok. also, is it okay if i stay the night? i could just... sleep on the couch." he nodded. "don't tell mark. he's been suspicious about us... dating? i've tried to tell him we're just friends, but he never listens." ah, so that's why mark was acting all weird at dinner. "that's kinda fucked up- if you know what i mean.." ethan smiled at you. "yeah." he muttered. "i'm gonna go get some water or something downstairs." ethan walked away as you nodded. "alright.", you replied as he shut the door. it was 11 already. you pulled up your phone and watched mark's newest video, propping your phone up against the side of the couch and laying down. you were a little drowsy. your thoughts faded in and out as you began to drift off to sleep.

you opened your eyes. you could hear delicate snoring in the background and as you felt around, you realized there was a blanket on you. ethan must have put it on you when he realized you had fallen asleep. you sighed and checked the time. 3:38am... you decided you should just try and fall back asleep or something. you tossed and turned for what felt like an hour, ethan's delicate snores filling the whole room. you shuddered. it was pretty cold in his room as well. you really didn't want to wake ethan up, but you thought he'd want you to. taking in a deep breath, you rose to your feet and walked over to his bed. you could barely see him. all you could see was the blankets rising up and down with his breathing. you shook his shoulder through the blankets. "ethan-" his snoring stopped, but he didn't move. "ethan." you shook him harder. he groaned and turned around. "you okay?" he muttered, half asleep. you sighed. "yeah, i'm just cold and i can't sleep." he sharply inhaled. you could tell he was about to fall back asleep. he moved to the side more and sloppily patted the open space next to him. "just.. lay here." he mumbled. you hesitated, and then lifted the blankets and lay down. not to be weird, but everything smelled so good- the pillow, the blankets, everything. it smelled like ethan- lavender and vanilla bean. you almost immediately fell asleep as ethan drifted off as well and his gentle snores resumed
