"I thought agent Phoenix was a guy."

———————-

(Steve's POV)

As soon as that comment came out of Sam's mouth, the agent gave Sam a death glare that was cold as ice, but could burn through vibranium at the same time. The fear in Sam's eyes was evident as he then shut his mouth and averted his eyes.

Fury was next to speak, completely ignoring the exchange of looks between the team and the agent.

"She will be staying here for an extended period of time, becoming a member of the team if you will. I expect you all shall work together in harmony and I expect singing songbirds and rats cleaning the kitchen when I come back-"

"I do! I.. I understood that reference." He cut Fury off as He pointed at him, the slowly lowered his hand when Tony rolled his eyes dramatically.

Fury sent the blonde super Solider an unimpressed look, then just shook his head. And with that, he leaned over to covertly mumble something to Agent Phoenix, then nodded towards the group as a goodbye. Now we were left here, all awkwardly exchanging glances with each other as the agent standing seemed to analyze each and every one of us individually.

He got a little uncomfortable when her cold gaze came to him. They met each others eye briefly, and he sternly nodded to her, keeping a tough look as my posture remained rigid and stiff.

(Sam's POV)

This woman scared me. There's no sugar coating it, she honestly sent shivers down my spine. If looks could kill, I'd be six feet under already. She seemed like she was sizing me up when she looked at me and I just wanted to sink into the chair and let it swallow me whole. All I wanted to do today was binge watch Black Mirror and eat to my hearts content. But no, I get to be sized up and probably EATEN ALIVE by this lady's eyes!! I saw Bucky stifle a laugh as he watched my movements. I narrowed my eyes at him then stomped on his foot from under the table. He jumped and then his knee hit the table loudly in the process, all attention turning towards  him. His eyes went to Agent Pheonix as they went wide with fear.
She just raised an eyebrow at him and then went on with her thing she was doing. Sizing people up I
assume.

(Bucky's POV)

A lot of the team were exchanging nervous glances at each other, as mine just stayed on my hands that were neatly folded in my lap after the small exchange that just happened between me and Sam. Everyone was shocked at the identity of this woman, but I, however, was quite scared. I recognized her immediately when she walked into the tower with Fury. I have had several flashbacks since HYDRA, and she happened to be in one of them.

She was a target for me at some other point in time. I remember going after her, and I remember her being much more powerful than I was and failing to exterminate her. A part of me wanted to bolt as far away from this woman as I possibly could, but another part of me wondered what made her the way she was. Most of my fear came from the thought that she might try to slit my throat at any time, given the fact that I tried to do the same to her. But I had no doubt that she'd do it in a heartbeat. She could choke the life out of me, right here, in front of the team, and not change a shade. So I tried to sink down in my chair and become as insignificant as humanly possible.

(Your POV)

It was quite some time before the tension in the room ceased and you spoke for the first time since arriving at the tower.

"I am agent L/N and I will be training alongside each and every one of you for the next several months. I will be accompanying you on missions along with as making you acquaintances with all of you. I hope that we will not have any interference and that all shall run smoothly. Now if you will excuse me, I have had my fun and shall return to my quarters."

And with that, you took long strides out of the room, with perfect posture and a purpose. You were  almost out of the doorway of the conference room when someone spoke up. You stopped dead in your tracks and looked over your shoulder menacingly.

"What was that?"

A man in maybe his late forties stood up and looked me straight in the eye, Tony Stark.
"I don't remember assigning you a room, did Fury give you one?"

His voice didn't come out as stern, but it came out as if he was testing the waters.

"Director Fury assigned me a room earlier today. I will find it on my own." My gaze reminded hard as I spoke with a sharp tone.

The brunette was persistent as he shot back another reply, but he sounded slightly more confident.
"You're new here, you surely can't know your way around."

As soon as he said that, you could see the regret in his eyes as you squinted your eyes and looked down your nose at him.

"I was a main element in building and designing this entire compound so I think I know my way around, Stark." You put extra emphasis on his name as you strode out of the room, but not before shooting a glare at the man.
