"DEATHBRINGER!"

Glory's irritated voice was loud enough that it shook the leaves on all the trees nearby, and Deathbringer knew he was in trouble.

Okay, he admitted, he had been annoying Glory a little more than usual, but what else was he supposed to do? Glory was his job and the love of his life. So what if he craved as much of her attention as possible?

But judging by the red scales and the look she gave him as he walked into the room, Deathbringer got the feeling that maybe his teasing had gone a bit too far.

"Yes, my Queen?" He said cheekily, his smug grin already forming, because it was impossible not to be smug around Glory, even when she was pissed at him. She studied him for a moment.

"I think it's about time you got a new assignment," She declared, and alarms started going off in the ex-assassin's mind. The smug grin dropped.

"What do you mean?" He asked, suddenly a little nervous. Glory wouldn't actually replace him just for being annoying... would she?

"Seeing as your annoyingness has intensified over the last few weeks, I can only assume you're getting a little restless and bored standing around doing nothing all day-"

"I could never get bored around you, my queen."

"...Sure. Anyways. I think I have found someone that has better need of your services than I do."

"Literally no one has more need of my services than you do." He smiled, and Glory raised her eyebrows.

"I disagree- besides, this assignment is important, so I need someone I can trust on it, and you're definitely the best candidate."

"What is it?"

"Sunny is forming a sort of... justice service in the Sandwing Kingdom. It's come to her attention that when a dragon is killed in the Scorpion Den or most other towns there, not many dragons bother to follow up on who killed them. She's aiming to change that by solving the murders herself. Why Thorn is allowing her to do that, I have no idea, but she and I both agreed that Sunny needs a protector. She's tough, but she's small. -She needs a partner, someone to look after her.

And seeing as it's a guarding job in which you get to use both your mind and potentially kill someone, I figured it would be right up your alley." Deathbringer stared at her. "So you're reassigning me so that I can bodyguard Sunny while she solves murders?" He made a face. Sure, Sunny and him got along, but he didn't want to guard her. He wanted to guard Glory!

"No, I'm reassigning you so that you can be Sunny's partner and help her solve murders while also making sure neither of you get killed doing so."

"I don't suppose I'm getting a say in this job, am I?"

"It's either that, or I will personally dump you in quicksand and leave you there to struggle."

"Crime solving it is." Deathbringer sighed. Glory smiled.

"Don't look so depressed, Deathy. You might actually enjoy this."

"I doubt I will enjoy it more than I did guarding you."

"Sure. Sunny is expecting you to arrive tomorrow, so good luck, and don't you dare forget to write."

"As if I'd forget to nag you through letters as often as possible."

The Next Day.....

Deathbringer landed in Possibility, Sunny's meeting place of choice, early the next day. The Sandwing Princess was waiting for him, a small pile of papers clutched in her talons. He couldn't help but notice that the Dragonet of Destiny didn't look fierce and ready to solve a murder- she actually looked kinda sad.
