MOVIEVERSE

Claire, Bronwyn, the Twins, and Fiona trailed after Miss Peregrine, through their large house and into the kitchen where she began taking out pots and pans to prepare their supper.

"Please, Miss P?" Bronwyn whined, her hands clasped in front of her and a pleading look in her eyes.

"My answer remains the same, Bronwyn," Miss Peregrine told her Bronwyn and the others, "you may not have a pet. Who would look after it when you got bored?"

"But we wouldn't get bored, Miss!" Claire objected quickly. "Promise!"

"I'm sorry children, but the answer is still no," Miss Peregrine shook her head firmly.

"Not even a little one? Like a guinea pig? Or a hamster?" Fiona suggested.

"Hamsters are nocturnal and we both know how much you like your sleep, Fiona," Miss Peregrine stood her ground while she took vegetables out of the fridge and placed them on the side.

"What about a cat? Please, Miss! We would take real good care of it," Fiona begged.

Miss Peregrine sighed and pretended not to hear her ward, dutifully washing the vegetables she'd taken out of the refrigerator.

Eventually, after a lot more pleading, the children gave up and dejectedly left the kitchen to sulk elsewhere in the house.

As they left, Miss Peregrine stopped what she was doing to watch them. At the sight of their slumped shoulders and their shuffling feet, an idea sprang to mind.

Shaking her head, she continued making supper and allowed her mind to wonder and her idea to blossom even further.

oOoOoOo

Nearly a week later, Miss Peregrine found herself returning to her loop with a sleeping ball of fluff tucked soundly underneath a blanket in a wicker basket. She almost regretted what she'd done, but the thought of her children's beaming smiles once they saw what she'd done banished any regret and replaced it with her barely contained excitement.

Eventually, she found herself at the entrance to the loop and she looked down at the basket in her hands. She'd never taken a non-peculiar animal into the loop before- well, she'd never taken a peculiar one into the loop either, but even she wasn't sure what would happen if a normal animal entered the loop. Would it even be able to get in?

Only one way to find out, she decided curiously as she took a step forward and entered the loop.

The familiar rushing sound of entering her own loop filled her ears and she kept on walking until she had exited the tunnel that led to her loop.

Meow

Miss Peregrine's heart skipped a beat and she looked down at the wicker basket with a smile only to see a pair of curious eyes peering out a her from under the blanket.

"Welcome to your new home," she said to the kitten.

She happily carried the kitten in the basket down the pathway leading to her house and when she arrived, she quietly opened the door and stepped inside.

Immediately, she could hear the sound of her children deep in the house. It sounded like the older children were in the lounge and the younger children were outside in the garden.

Choosing to show her surprise to the younger children first as it was them who wanted a pet in the first place, she carried the basket through the house and into the back garden where she was met with the sight of her children playing.

Millard and Hugh were once more playing a game of football, Claire and Bronwyn were having a tea party, Fiona was growing flowers, and the Twins were on the seesaw.

"Children, could you come here please?" She called out to her wards.

They all stopped what they were doing with confusion but they didn't question anything until they reached her.

"Is everything all right, Miss?" Fiona asked.

"Everything is fine, dear," she smiled, "I just have a surprise for you all."

"A surprise?" Claire grinned excitedly.

"What is it?" Bronwyn questioned with a huge grin.

Reaching down to the basket, she pulled the blanket back to reveal the little kitten curled up asleep.

"A kitten!" The children cried in unison.

The kitten opened its eyes and looked up at the smiling faces, and then let out a yawn as it stood up on its little legs.

"Is it ours?" Bronwyn asked.

"Of course," Miss Peregrine agreed. "But you have to make sure you look after her otherwise I'll be forced to take her off of you."

"We'll look after her Miss P! Promise!" Claire reassured Miss Peregrine, and the other children nodded their agreement.

"What's her name?" Millard asked.

"Well, I thought you could all decide."

"Nova!" Bronwyn and Claire shouted together.

"What, have you already decided?" Hugh asked jokingly.

The girls nodded and Claire took the kitten out of the basket to place her on the grass. Nova, as it seemed she was now called, shook her head and padded around on the grass, taking in her surroundings.

"She's perfect," Claire cooed, "thank you, Miss P."

The Twins wrapped their arms around Miss Peregrine's waist and cooed their thanks for the wonderful gift.
