Chapter 11-Keefe

Keefe was over at Fitz's house for the day.

"Stop Keefe!" Fitz laughed. "You're gonna eat all of the mallowmelt!"

"That's what I'm going for!" He tried to stuff as much as in his mouth as possible.

" I suunk zut I ate goo mooch. "

"What?"

Keefe finished chewing, then said, "I think that I ate too much."

" No duh. "

Suddenly Fitz's phone rang.

"It's Sophie. What should I do?"

" Answer it! "

So Fitz did.

"Uh huh. Yeah. Really? That's great! Okay, I'll see you Friday." He hung up, looking very excited .

"Well?"

" She's actually doesn't have to work at the shelter prom night!" He burst out. "So she's going with me! "

"Really?" Keefe forced a smile.

But Biana told me that Sophie just didn't like Fitz.

"Yeah! It's gonna be great!"

" Totally. "

"You were supposed to be home earlier!" Keefe's father yelled.

"I'm sorry." Keefe said looking down.

" Hmph. "

Keefe walked up the stairs slowly to his room. He felt deflated. Left out. All his father did was yell at him. Tell him how disappointing he was.

Nobody cared. He sank into his bed and let the tears flow.

He didn't know why he was crying. Maybe it was because his father didn't care much about him. Or that he didn't really have any friends except Fitz.

Whatever the case, Keefe didn't know why he was crying.

Ding dong

Someone was at the door. His father had left, and Ro was who knows where. So he has to answer the door.

He tried his best to wipe the tears away.

He opened the door, and was surprised to see Sophie there.

She didn't seem surprised by his appearance.

"What are you doing here?" He asked.

"I dunno. But I felt like you could use a friend." She smiled.

He smiled back.

He invited her in and took her to the living room.

"Do you want to tell me why you were crying?" She asked softly.

He shrugged. But then, everything poured out. "What if I'm just not good enough?" He whispered.

She placed a hand over his. "You are."

By then the sun was setting.

Sophie stood up. "I have to get home. I'll see you at school."

Keefe simply nodded, so she started walking out.

When she was opening the door, Keefe saw her smile.

So he smiled.
