Unknown's POV

Wake up..

WAKE UP!

I bolted awake, chest heaving as I felt sweat running down my cheek.

"W-Where a-am I?"

A migraine suddenly hit me, the pain almost unbearable as memories start ramming themselves straight into my head.

Task force 1, Bainbridge, Enterprise..

Enterprise?

The surrounding darkness changed into a scene, with a large crowd surrounding a ship.

A person on a platform reared their arms back.

"I christen thee, USS Long Beach! May God bless this ship and all who sail her!"

And smashed a champagne bottle on the ship's hull, shattering it with all the shards falling towards the water below with an almost inaudible splash.

An applause soon came from the audience along with music from a nearby band as people, sailors I recognized started slowly going inside the ship.

A thought crossed my head from the name uttered from the person's mouth.

"Long Beach?.. Is that my name?"

Yes..

I jolted in surprise from the impassive voice, which seemingly came from every direction. "W-Whose there! Show yourself!"

Who I am does not concern you.

I slightly growled at the answer while constantly ignoring the shivers down my spine from the mysterious speaker. "W-What do you want?"

Do you wish to be useful again?

"What do you mean- AGH!" Another migraine hit me, this time much harder as more memories slam into my head equal to the force of a truck. Though one memory standed out from the rest

Deactivated and turned from a warship to a stripped rusted hull floating in the same spot for decades. Slowly waiting for the day for it to be turned to scrap metal.

I gasped and held my hand to my chest as I fell to my knees, taking big gulps of air. After a few moments I steadily stood up again. "How could I ever be useful as an empty husk?"

You will be useful, but not in your world.

"What do you mean? Not in my world?"

Yes.. a world ravaged by war as humanity is cornered onto a wall.

"I do not trust you." Even though I could not even see my body I still felt my own eyes narrow.

I do not care if you trust me. A yes or no will suffice.

I pondered for a moment, a new chance to be useful.. to not be stuck, useless while slowly rusting away. The choice was obvious, yet hesitant. "I a-accept.."
