CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO.

"I trust you all slept well last night?" Allura looked to each of her new paladins, all five shrugging in sync as if they weren't even sure they had slept in the first place. The princess sighed but brushed it off and continued. "Now that you're all officially Paladins and we finally have a full team, I think it's about time each of you receive your armor and Bayard."

"What's a barnyard?" Finn raised an eyebrow before rubbing at their eyes groggily. Coran had been forcing the five of them up earlier and earlier and so far it was... miserable, to say the least.

"Why do we need armor if we're inside the Lions? Like isn't that the whole point?" Lia's questions came out more deadpan than intended but definitely got her point across as Allura cringed.

"Everything will be explained eventually, I promise. I think it's best you see for yourself first."

The humans were walking down the corridors a bit too slow for the Altean's taste. She promised herself that she would be more patient with them (especially considering the last mishap with Rowan), but she couldn't help but to grab at Miles' wrist and pull on his arm a bit. When he pulled away from her harshly, she would just reach for Chayse who didn't put up as much of a fight in her sleepy state.

It wasn't her fault that she was excited to show them her favorite part about being a Paladin— the cool accessories. That, and the Paladin armor was a necessity when fighting in battle. For more reasons than liked to remember at the moment.

"The armory isn't a room we go in often," Allura admitted, "mainly just when a Paladin's armor needs repairing or replacing. And that doesn't happen too much either."

"Right cause of the Lions," Lia agreed but her only response was an eye roll. The princess then waved her hand forward, a (quite literal) universal signal for them all to go before her.

The door opened automatically as they all piled into the pitch black room, stumbling over one another and grabbing onto shoulders when the door closed behind them. They had gotten accustomed to all the lights being motion censored, but apparently not in here. Allura simply told them to calm down as she pressed down on a translucent button and the room slowly flickered to life.

After everyone's eyes had adjusted and focused, they stared dumbfounded at whatever lay before them. First of all... why such a big room to store practically nothing? There were five tubes settled on the back wall, holding a whole rainbow of what was presumably armor... but how dramatic.

"You're free to go look," Allura nodded as a few of the teens looked back to her. And so they all shuffled forward, never stepping too far away from the comfort of one another. No one wanted to leave their small bubble so instead they just watched silently over the unmoving armor, eyes tracing every crack and complexity as they just floated in their cases.

Finally Chayse spoke up in an attempt to dispel the awkwardness. "So... does it matter what color we get? Cause I think I would look best in black."

It didn't take long for the princess to release a laugh, her graceful hand covering her mouth. The short human, realizing that her serious question was probably the dumbest thing to come from her mouth, chuckled to cover it up.

"Go ahead, try them on!" The white haired woman finally said, her words airy and light as she tried to regain some semblance of oxygen.

"Try them... on?" Miles repeated. They couldn't help but to cringe at the thought of doing just that especially when it seemed like every set of armor was made for one body type (average height and average weight).

"I'm gonna look sick," Lia cheered with the exact opposite emotions. She reached for the red armor in excitement, and the others followed slowly.

"Don't forget the bodysuits," Allura smiled and held out three black pieces of fabric. "And changing rooms are to your left."

Rowan sighed. "We should have skipped Tennessee."
