August 16th, 1864

AURORA LENOX SMOOTHED OUT HER dark navy dress as she stepped out of the carriage. She looked around Mystic Falls and sighed deeply. Ever since her eighteenth birthday, she had been traveling the world, trying to find her soulmate. It had now been twenty-years since her search began. She was starting to wonder if she would ever find her other half.

"Here, let me take your bags." A gentleman said, breaking her out of her thoughts. She looked over at him and was surprised to find piercing blue eyes looking back at her. He had dark ebony hair, and fair skin with olive undertones.

She gave him a soft smile, "Thank you." she said as she handed her bags over to him.

He gave her a charming smile, "Anytime, m'lady." He motioned towards the Salvatore Estate and Aurora nodded her head at him and walked towards it. She was planning on staying there for the next few months, and she could only hope everyone was kind. She couldn't help but notice how stunning the estate was; it was a tall building with four large, white posts in the front of it. There were around nine windows in the front, and she could only imagine how many were in the back. The whole building was white, save for the window panes. It reminded her of her old home.

"I'm Damon Salvatore." the man said from behind her, causing her to glance over her shoulder as they made their way to the front door.

    "I'm Aurora Lenox." she replied.

Damon stepped beside of her to open the door, "What brings you to Mystic Falls, Ms. Lenox?"

"Please, call me Aurora." she said with a soft smile, she met his eyes for a moment and then walked inside. She was surprised to see there was no one there to greet her. Damon led her up the stairs and into the room she would be staying in. She was happy to see that it was nice and clean. Some of the places she had stayed in on her journey had been absolutely disgusting.

Damon put her bag on her bed and then turned to look at her, "You never did answer my question."

"Oh," Aurora said, she had forgotten he had even asked her anything, "I'm here to find my soulmate."

Damon studied her for a moment, "How long have you been eighteen now?"

"Twenty-years." she replied, a twinge of sadness in her voice. She could only hope she met her soulmate before they died.

Damon's eyebrows shot up in shock, "Twenty-years?" he quietly asked.

Aurora nodded her head, confirming his words. She wasn't surprised when he stared at her in complete shock for a moment. He seemed to realize what he was doing, and he quickly averted his eyes. "Sorry, it's just . . ." he paused, as if thinking his words over, "I just assumed that everyone met their other half sooner than that." he looked as if he was almost disappointed, "I hope I don't have to wait that long."

"I'm sure it'll be okay." Aurora reassured, "I've not heard of this happening to anyone else, so I doubt it will happen to you."

Damon smiled softly at her words, "Thanks."

A FEW DAYS PASSED BY, AND AURORA was introduced to Stefan Salvatore. She was utterly shocked to learn that Stefan was almost more charming than Damon. It seemed both the boys could make any girl swoon and fall at their feet. Neither one of them had the attributes of her soulmate though. She didn't feel the instant connection of their souls as she knew she would with her other half. Sometimes she wondered if it was truly a real thing, would she actually meet someone that she just instantly connected with? Then she would remember that she was supposed to be thirty-eight, but she still looked eighteen.

As she sat in the garden behind the Salvatore Estate, she didn't even realize that someone had snuck up behind her. "Enjoying the fresh air?" she heard Stefan call from behind her. She turned and faced him with a smile.

"Why, of course, good sir." she replied teasingly. Even though she hadn't found her soulmate in Mystic Falls, she was thankful to have met the Salvatore brothers. They were both quickly turning into her best friends, and she wouldn't have it any other way.

"Have you had any luck finding him?" Stefan asked as he sat next to her. He smoothed out his beige pants as he did so.

Aurora couldn't help but notice how green his eyes were the moment she looked at him. It was the most stunning shade of green she had ever seen. It seemed both of the Salvatore boys were blessed with gorgeous eyes. She tucked a piece of her red hair behind her ear and shook her head, "I don't think that he is here."

"You'll find him one day." Stefan replied softly, "But until then," he began as he grabbed her hands, stood up and pulled her out of her seating position, "How about a game of tag?"

AURORA STAYED IN MYSTIC FALLS FOR another week before she decided to head out. Katherine Pierce had arrived in town, and the Salvatore boys seemed to fawn over her. Aurora was suspicious of her, but quickly tossed the thought away and decided to just leave before she caused problems. She knew that one of the boys would suffer a heartache from Katherine, and she didn't want to be around when it happened.

As the years passed on, Aurora realized that she may never find her soulmate. She would have to wait for him to die, and then she would begin to age again and eventually pass away. However, that day never came. She outlived all of her family and friends. She started to slowly give up hope on her soulmate. After all, she had already lived for centuries.
