Chapter 2

She grabbed one of the fries from the container on her lap and plopped it into her mouth. She held one up to Damon, "Want one?" He shrugged, took it from her, and put it in his mouth. After a moment of silence, she turned to him. "How did this happen to you?" she asked.
Damon looked down, "Katherine." he stated. "She turned us and then faked her own death."
Aurora studied him as he spoke. She could tell that he used to really love the girl. She reached over and grabbed his hand. "I'm sorry." she softly said.
"No, I'm sorry." Damon said as he raised his eyes to meet hers. "You've been waiting for your soulmate for so long." Sadness filled his eyes as he looked upon her, "I can't imagine how hard it's been."
Aurora shrugged and kept her face impassive. It saddened her, but she didn't want the conversation to be about her. For years that was all she had spoke of. Her whole life had been dedicated to finding the love of her life. She wanted to just forget about it for a moment. "It is what it is." she stated, "Tell me, did you ever find your soulmate?"
Damon's whole demeanor changed at her words. His eyes brightened and a small smile appeared on his lips. "I did find her. Her name is Elena Gilbert." his smile started to slowly turn into a frown, "But she's in love with Stefan."
Aurora's eyes widened in shock, she didn't think it was possible for someone's soulmate to be in love with another person. "Are you serious?"
Damon took a big drink of his bourbon and nodded his head, "Yeah. Life sucks. People are trying to kill us. The usual." He tried to act uncaring, but Aurora could see the sorrow in his eyes.
"How can she be in love with him when your guys' souls were created for each other?" she asked, genuinely curious to know the answer.
Damon shrugged, "I guess the soulmate thing isn't all that it's cracked up to be."
Aurora picked up her glass of bourbon and took a drink. She winced slightly at the taste, she hadn't had alcohol in a long time. "Maybe she'll come around." she reassured. "I believe that since souls are created for each other, they will always find a way to each other. You just have to wait until she's willing to realize that."
Damon nodded, "I guess so." he paused, "But I don't want to hurt Stefan." It was partially true. Damon truly didn't want to hurt his brother, but he was also selfish and wanted nothing more than to steal his soulmate away from Stefan.
"Stefan should understand." Aurora said, "He should know that soulmates are very important." Silence followed after her words. Finally, she spoke again, "Where is Stefan anyways?"
"Have you ever heard of the Original Vampires?" Damon asked, he stood up from his spot and went to stand in front of the fireplace.
Aurora followed his movements with her eyes, "No, who are they?" She asked as she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. What did they have to do with Stefan?
"They were the first vampires to ever be created." Damon began. He told Aurora the story of how Klaus Mikaelson was a hybrid, and how he had sacrificed Elena to become who he is. He told her about how Elena was still alive, how Elijah was now daggered, and how Stefan traded himself for Damon's life. By the end of his story, Aurora was shell-shocked. That was more drama than she had ever heard of, and she had lived for over one-hundred years.
All she could say was, "Wow."
"So what has your life been like lately?" he asked as he walked back over to the couch.
"It's not been near as crazy as yours." Aurora noted. "I've just been traveling the word, looking for my other half. I'm a pretty boring person."
"How did you know I was a vampire?" he asked.
"Well first off, you told me I was human." She laughed, "Second, after so long I began to wonder why I hadn't begun aging when it was clear that my soulmate should've been dead. So, I found a witch and she told me that my soulmate was a vampire." she said with a shrug. It wasn't an elaborate story, and it wasn't very interesting, but Damon seemed to hang off of her every word.
"I hope you meet him soon."
"Me too, Damon."
Damon's phone started to buzz and he looked down at it. He read the text message and then looked back at his red-haired friend. "Do you want to go to a birthday party with me later today? You'll get to meet my soulmate if you do." he asked, his voice teasing.
Aurora sent him a bright smile, she hadn't been to a party in what felt like ages. "I would love to." she replied.
"I do have to warn you though," Damon began, "Elena, well, she's a doppelgänger." He winced as he said the words. He knew Aurora didn't really care for Katherine, and she most likely had an even deeper dislike for the vampire since she found out what she did to them.
"A doppelgänger?" Aurora questioned. She had heard the term thrown around in the past, and she could briefly remember her old vampire friends mentioning something like that, but she had no clue what it was.
"Elena and Katherine look exactly alike."
"Oh shit."
