Once upon a time, there was a little child.
Looking at him, one could say he had everything he needed and more. He had a strong healthy body, young full of life and vigor for him to dance in the rain to the song of birds, to run with his friends in those happy golden fields, to draw, to sing like a lark... He had a mother and a father, one would call strict, but they loved him from the bottom of their hearts, wanting nothing but the best for him. He also had a younger brother, who looked up to him, and whom he doted upon. He had food to eat, a roof over his head, and fun things to do to pass the time.
This child though, was wise beyond his years. He saw the pointlessness of everything... And therefore he longed for the end to come. Momentarily life brought him happiness...but the pain, that inescapable pain would return. He found ways to numb the pain...but they were not lasting. It would always come back. So one jolly day he set out, confident to meet the maker.
He went up to his parents and said, " Mother, Father, I've had enough of this life. I'd like to end it please. Would you do the honors?".
His mother and father were shocked, they had never expected their child to feel this way. They replied to him gravely, " My child, we're sad to hear you feel this way. We wish there was something we could do to help you. But the request you make of us, we simply can't do. In our selfishness we love you too much and our hearts would break if you were to leave us".The child understood.
"Thank you. For everything," he whispered, nodding he left. He knocked on the door and entered his little brother's room.
He looked into the smaller child's innocent eyes and said, " I've had enough of this life. I'd like to end it please. Would you do the honors?". The brother was confused, he could not understand why he felt this way. Wordlessly he started crying, tears streaking down his face. After some time he mumbled, "why? I don't understand. If you're gone, who will I look up to, who will help me with my homework? Who will play with me? I don't understand. "He looked at him saying "Of course you don't understand. I'm glad you don't". He smiled at him once more and left the room. He wound his way through the cobbled paths, looking at the green fields with cows chewing their cud, wondering how pathetic their life was. On the side of the road he met his best friend.
She dreamily said, " Oh, hello. Lovely evening isn't it?". He told her he has a request to make. She told him to go ahead.
He repeated, "I've had enough of this life. I'd like to end it please. Would you do the honors?"
The best friend was taken aback but she knew him too well so she didn't question it. And so she replied, "You have brought me so much joy to my life. Once you're gone who'd be there with me all through out the school day? Who'd help fill my empty moments with talk and laughter? A world without you would be lightless and our memories together would haunt me. I'm so sorry, but I could never ". They exchanged their goodbyes. It was a bit sad she was one of the only few people who understood the real him.
" Oh well! " he thought, increasing his pace.
The sun had begun its descent, making the sky the color of blood. "How beautiful," he thought. From the cobble stones beneath his feet, waves of summer heat rose. He wiped the sweat off his brow, inhaling deeply. The smell of luscious red summer roses filled his lungs. A bumblebee fluttered by. He was lost in thought, "What makes it work so hard? Why does it bother....what keeps it going...will it sting me...would I like that to happen?". His mind wondered back to lonely lonely country road. But the bee was already gone. Ahead he saw the school house. His teacher was just locking humble wood door behind him, when the child said "Sir, I've had enough of this life. I'd like to end it please. Would you do the honors?". The teacher was shocked out of his senses and all he could say was, "Why on earth do you want to do that? You're my straight A student! You're the only hope this little village school has. I don't understand". "Nobody ever does." he replied solemnly. He paid his respects to the teacher and they parted ways.
