The gossip at school was different from usual. instead of mentioning dating history, celebrity scandals and shit-talking, the students discussed slightly different topics, like the attempted attack on the field trip.
jisung couldn't help but roll his eyes whenever he heard how exaggerated the story had become. he definitely did not remember a chainsaw being there yesterday.
During lunch break, the two boys sat in the buzzing cafeteria, where no one else joined their table because they were just that popular. they hunched over the new laptop, racking their overused brains.
"When you said 'solve a mystery', I thought you meant we were going to be someone cool like Sherlock Holmes. or even cooler, scooby doo." hyunjin frowned, obviously unimpressed by the lack of progress.
"Hey, don't be like that. It'll be fun. mystery solving and teenage rebellion go hand in hand." he attempted to make it sound more appealing.
"So what the plan is, bug boy?"
"the plan?" jisung scratched the back of his head.
The long-haired boy hung his head in defeat. "you didn't think that far, did you?"
"well, of course i did!" his nodding slowed down. "... not."
"That's why I'm the brains out of the two of us."
"That leaves me with the looks."
ignoring his friend, hyunjin continued deducing the mystery surrounding the previous events.
"so, these guys went after one of the most significant tech facilities in Korea and failed, so they obviously don't have enough resources. That means they won't stop until they get what they want. but the question is, where would they go next?"
a moment of silence elapsed between the two. The overworking brains pieced together the scarce scattered clues until they finally fell into place.
jisung gasped, snatching the laptop off his best friend's hands.
"Careful, eight eyes!" he hissed. "I spent all summer saving up for this. Walking dogs are not as fun as it sounds. Especially the ones with stomach problems."
"wang corps!" he swivelled the laptop around and urgently pointed at the screen. "he's friends with Mr Park! He told me the CEO has close ties with China, America, and Korea. he gets his tech from everywhere, all concentrated in one building."
hyunjin nodded, slightly impressed. "maybe i was wrong. You do have some brain in you, sung."
"Haha, screw you," he smiled sarcastically. "so, new plan, I go to wang corps today."
"as if they'd let a kid like you even take a step inside." he scoffed.
he raised his eyebrows with confidence. Maybe he had too much confidence to the point he was careless. "Nope, but they'll let spider–!"
