"You stupid, useless girl!" Lucius Malfoy slapped my across the face, my head snapping to the side and I fought to hold back tears. "You're just as useless as your parents were and look where they ended up."

"I'm sorry, sir." I muttered, looking down and he grabbed my face harshly, fingers digging into my skin and made me look up at him.

"I want this house spotless and you will not rest until everything shines." He growled and I tried to nod. "Filth like you shouldn't even be allowed in a place like this." He pushed me aside and I nearly lost my balance.

"I'll do better, sir." I told him, with as much dignity as I could muster.

He scoffed, throwing a wet rag at me and left the manor. I let out a shaky breath and started cleaning the mess he'd made right before he started hitting me again. I couldn't wait to get out of this house, this life, and be free.

"Oh dear." I heard Narcissa Malfoy sigh. "Is he gone?" She asked and I nodded, not looking up at her. "Come here."

I went over to her, tears brimming my eyes and she tutted, frowning down at me, her fingers softly touching the newly forming bruises.

"Let's take care of you, shall we?" She smiled softly and got started on easing the swelling, handing me something to manage the pain. She couldn't completely take care of the bruises or Lucius would know something was going on.

"Again?" Draco's voice sounded and I glanced up to see him reaching the bottom of the stairs, his eyes taking in my appearance.

"I'm afraid so." Narcissa sighed, finishing up and looking down at me. "There you go, sweetheart." She told me softly and I thanked her, ignoring Draco's presence as best as I could when I started cleaning up again.

"There must be something we can do." I heard Draco mutter quietly to his mother.

"He won't allow it." She muttered back. "I'm sorry, Draco." Narcissa left the room.

Draco crouched down and started helping me, making me look up at him again. "Don't." I told him softly.

"Let me help." He frowned and I shook my head.

"If he gets back-" I stuttered, tears brimming my eyes again and I looked away.

"What can I do?" Draco asked softly. It was strange, seeing him like this. He was never kind to me at Hogwarts, acted as though he had no idea who the poorly dressed loner Slytherin was.

"Just go." I sniffed. "If he finds you here, I'll pay the price."

"Y/N-" Draco started, but shook his head and straightened up. "I'm sorry." He said softly, leaving the room.

Alone, I cried while cleaning. My eyes burned and I tried not to make too much noise, biting my lip to hold in my sobs. I cleaned the dining room for hours, finishing cleaning the room when Lucius barged in again and inspecting it.

He looked at my red rimmed eyes and scoffed. "Pathetic." He snapped his fingers and a house elf appeared, holding the chains that were used to lock me in whenever there was a meeting and my heart thundered in my chest, panic rising. Not again.
