Scrolling through instagram as she sat by the bed, [ Name ] sighed in pure boredom. The nurse had come in earlier and said that if the [ Hair color ]-haired girl wished, she could stay until the volleyball player felt better, or woke up at least. Seeing this opportunity to skip her classes, [ Last name ] agreed, a small smirk of mischief on her face.
Now regretting her life decisions, she yawned, hoping that Rintarou would wake up soon, considering she was bored out of her mind. As if on cue, she caught sight of his eyes fluttering open, trying to adjust to the warm colors in the room.
"...Ow." He mumbled, rubbing his temple. Must've been a headache, was what [ Name ] thought. Sighing, she took the glass of water and painkillers that Haruka Sakura, the nurse, had left earlier. Handing the medicine to the middle blocker as he looked at her in confusion, she rolled her eyes. "For the headache."
"Uh. I'd rather not trust you with my medicines. For all I know, you might've poisoned this." Said Rintarou with a straight face, making [ Name ] flinch in annoyance.
"Oi. Keep being so salty and I'll kick you." She warned, to which Suna just sighed, shaking his head as he took the medicine and the water.
Popping the pill into his hand, he put it in his hand before chugging it down with the water.
Setting the glass on the table by the bed, he sighed. "So uh... Why are you here in the first place?" He questioned her, knowing there was about no way she would've brought him here on her own.
"Shinsuke asked me to take you here because you had a fever, and he had to help Ojiro-san deal with the twins, I believe." She replied sincerely, and Suna tilted his head.
"Shinsuke? You're on the first-name basis with our captain?" He questioned, finding it slightly weird.
He's never seen Kita and [ Last name ] hang out, so he started wondering how long have the two known eachother, before just dropping the topic as he felt [ Name ]'s hand on his forehead.
"Hm... It seems like you still have a fever, but luckily it's not as bad. Do you still want to stay here it do you want to go home?" She asked, removing her hand.
Shivering at the word home, Suna was quick to answer her question. "Actually I think I'll stay here a little longer. Until my headache is gone."
[ Name ] nodded, looking through the window with a relaxed sigh. Rintarou peaked at her curiously, but then reminded himself to just stop staring like a creep.
"So... Why'd you stay here instead of going to class?" The middle blocker questioned, the silence was making him slightly uncomfortable.
"Oh. Well I wasn't in the mood for classes. And I wanted to make sure you're okay. Kita kept bombarding my phone with messages... He's really worried about you." She hummed out, making Suna chuckle quietly.
"Yeah, sounds like Kita." He said with a half-hearted laugh. "And why'd you wish to skin classes, mrs. Troublemaker?"
"...Totally not because of that math test." She huffed, crossing her arms. At this time, both of them were forgetting that this wasn't their usual relationship and that they were supposed to be enemies.
But they found eachother's presence... Comforting.
At this time, [ Last name ] [ Name ] reminded Suna of someone dear to him. Someone who was always there for him, always able to help him relax.
Maybe, just maybe, Suna and [ Last name ] didn't have to be enemies...
Did they?
They had fairly no good enough reason to hate eachother. They were messing with eachother out of frustration and boredom, so maybe being acquaintances, mutuals, friends even, didn't sound so bad.
Finding some new topics to talk about, they ended up chatting the evening off. Bot bothering to spill what's on their mind, the reason behind why they kept messing with eachother, they had made eachother smile. Laugh. Suna had even cracked an amazing joke that sent [ Name ] to the floor, laughing her ass off.
Suna was a simple man. Not too bad at school nor on the court, but incredibly lazy and salty at times.
Suna Rintarou was a mystery. He was so not fond of friendships, relationships, anything. Nothing really caught his attention for long.
Suna Rintarou hated being in love. He hated the thought of love.
Suna Rintarou hated love.
Rintarou knew his life wasn't a Disney movie. He knew he shouldn't just expect a special someone to walk into his life and leave him head over heels and make him happy. He knew love was a pointless and an unnecessary thing in life. He knew people always exaggerated the term of love.
But maybe, just maybe, this was a friendship Rintarou could hold dearly.
For someone who reminded him of a person he held dearly, he wanted to put effort into this friendship.
Maybe they will get close.
To the point where calls at 3am wouldn't be a problem. Where arguing and ignoring eachother for weeks would be made up over icecream and a movie night. Maybe they'd help eachother with school work, and Suna would tease [ Last name ] for being such a noob at math, and she'd shoot back with saying how he isn't any better at it.
Maybe they'd have sleepovers everynight, that would start with Rintarou sneaking out and entering through [ Name ]'s window.
Maybe [ Name ] would make him feel better if he ever ended up at his breaking point. Maybe she'd rub circles on his back while he'd vent to her. Maybe he would do the same for her.
Maybe [ Name ]'s parents would approve of their friendship, and treat Rintarou as if he was their son.
But those are just 'maybe's.
At the moment, he could only listen to [ Name ] telling him about the twins being idiots and crashing their practice, as her eyes lit up.
Perhaps those 'maybe's wouldn't be so bad.
