The Search for Quirin

Hey all y'all wonderful people, I just wanted to say thanks for all the views, comments, and votes! This story has only been out for about 10ish days but I'm already getting support! I really appreciate it <3

Also I'm gonna be getting a device that supports digital art soon, and then I'll make an official cover for this story lol

Anyways, back to the story~

Varian rushed through the town heading towards Attila's shop, which was now fully merged with Monty's candy shop. He couldn't tell if he was more worried about or angry at his father, constantly wondering why he hadn't told him of the journal, or this mysterious Stardrop. 

Why would he keep something so important from me? Does he not trust me? Thinks I can't handle it? Or some other reason?  Varian thought as he rushed through the crowded plaza. He could feel Ruddiger's grip of his shoulder tighten as he rushed through the people, and noticed Eugene on Maximus not far behind him. He didn't stop to check for Rapunzel, just continued onwards, looking through the crowd to maybe catch a glimpse of his dad. 

Finally, he arrived at Attila's shop, once again out of breath from rushing. Max strolled up beside him, Eugene hopping off and handing Max an apple from his bag. A few moments later, Rapunzel and Pascal showed up, sighing as well to catch their breath. 

"DAD!" Varian yelled, surprising the entire group at his unexpected outburst. "DAD!" He said again. No response from anywhere around. Varian began wandering around the outside of the shop, motioning to Ruddiger to check around as well. His furry friend jumped off and started searching. Pascal also hopped off Rapunzel's shoulder and followed the raccoon. 

"Why don't we check inside?" Eugene suggested. Rapunzel nodded in agreement, and they turned to Varian, who ultimately agreed. 

*ding* The bell of the shop rang as Varian, Eugene, and Rapunzel entered. Max stood guard outside. 

"Well hello there young Varian!" Uncle Monty said joyfully. "And Eugene, have you come for more cupcakes? And Rapu-" He cut himself short, his face dropping when he saw the princess. 

"Hey there Monty." Rapunzel said, in her ever cheerful voice, however her face not matching the tone. They started at each other for a moment, then Eugene interrupted.

"Hey there Uncle Monty. Sorry but I'm not here for cupcakes, although I'd love one right now. We're actually here about Q-" Eugene said, but cut off by Varian, who was obviously antsy. 

"Have you seen my dad?" Varian asked, his voice tinted with annoyance. 

Monty looked shocked and confused at the conversation, but eventually caught up with the question. 

"Quirin? No, I haven't seen him around here. You can ask Attila though." Monty replied.

Varian rushed off to find Attila. Rapunzel followed him. Eugene stayed with Monty, apologizing quickly for the inconvenience, and ultimately buying a cupcake. Then he followed the princess.

Eventually Varian found Attila in the back of the bakery, seemingly burning croissants. He approached the baker, coughing at the smoke in the air and putting his goggles on to shield his eyes from the sting. 

"Attila?" Varian asked, surprising the baker.

"Oh! Uh, Varian! You startled me!" He said, spinning around to face the boy. "Sorry about the smoke, I was caught off guard earlier forgot about them."

"It's *cough* fine." Varian said, although his voice was a bit raspy from the smoke. Rapunzel soon showed up behind him, Eugene right beside her. 

"Here, let's head outside where there's fresh air." Attila suggested, and the group headed back to the door. Attila took off his oven mitts and followed suite. Soon, he saw the bright rays of sunlight through his helmet. 

"Alright, what can I do for you guys?" Attila asked, bowing to the princess. 

"Have you seen my dad?" Varian asked immediately after Attila had finished speaking. "Xavier said he had been over around here, but Monty said he hadn't seen him." 

Rapunzel and Eugene nodded their heads in agreement with the young alchemist, silently backing his story. 

"Oh, as a matter of fact, I have!" Attila said, his voice sparkling for some reason. "He was actually here right before I headed back to the kitchen, as I said before, I got caught off guard and he was the cause. Although, I'm not sure where he's gone now." 

UGGGGH.  Varian thought to himself, now more angry than worried. He felt like he was playing cat-and-mouse with his dad. He'd had enough of this game. 

"Any ideas on directions?" Rapunzel asked. Attila shook his head. 

"*sigh* Well great. back to searching." Eugene said, obviously annoyed. Where the hell had Quirin gone? There weren't that many places he could have run off to that Varian hadn't already checked. Eugene glanced over at the kid. He looked pissed.

Suddenly Ruddiger and Pascal came running around the corner, startling the entire group. Ruddiger jumped up onto Max's head, annoying him a bit, but the horse inevitably ignored it. He then quickly began chittering and waving his paws or feet or whatever around in the air at Varian. 

"Did you find something buddy?!" Varian asked his furry companion. Ruddiger nodded quickly. Pascal jumped up on Rapunzel's shoulder, also signaling to support the racoons charades show.

"I think they want us to follow them!" Rapunzel said cheerfully. Pascal nodded as well, and hopped onto Max's head alongside Ruddiger. Max snorted. 

"Alright then." Eugene said, as he signaled to Max to listen to the smaller animals and lead the way. Then Max began off in the direction Ruddiger had "told" him to go. (Because animal communication and all that.) 

Rapunzel nodded and thanked Attila, then gave Monty a slight glare and followed her boyfriend. Finally, Varian started heading off in their direction. He stopped and looked back at Attila, also nodding, then continued forward. 

Where are you dad?  Varian thought. And what are you hiding from me? What does any of this stuff mean? I need to know! 

And with that, The group once again headed off, continuing the seemingly never-ending search for Quirin.
