Lyra gazed at the Theater of Tales and couldn't help but feel in awe at how great it looked.

The Ever's side was filled with white swans and banners blaring 'TEAM GOOD' as well as glass flowers and crystal friezes that came to life, while the Never's side had hideous signs scrawled 'TEAM EVIL' and scorch marks on their walls. There were also contorting shadows of monsters eating peasants and witches cooking children.

The School Master really outdid himself this time. Lyra thought as she stared at the Evers and Nevers booing and jeering at each other.

Before Lyra knew it, the night of the Circus of Talents had arrived. Since Lyra was at the top of her ranks, she was obviously a candidate for the competition.

However, Lyra had not prepared anything at all. With all this Sophie drama going around, she had completely forgotten about the Circus of Talents.

Maybe I'll just summon a rain of swords to the stage. Lyra thought. If she was not mistaken, she would be going against Agatha.

Her ranking had dropped to 2nd place. Sophie had beat her to first.

Lyra couldn't complain about this since she knew Sophie was the most villainous out of all of them.

The girl has symptoms for pete's sake and the Storian even started a fairy tale about her and Agatha.

The School Master must be watching this like it's a show. Lyra frowned.

"Where's Sophie?" A voice asked making Lyra's eyes snapped to its owner.

Colten's eyes met hers as he took as a seat beside her. Lyra didn't know what to respond. Ever since the Trial by Tale, Lyra had not said a word to the blank-eyed boy.

She wasn't purposely ignoring him but she didn't really want to talk to him either. As she looked at him from under the dim light of the Theater of Tales, Lyra couldn't help but noticed he looked. . . better.

He wasn't wearing his mask and his eyes weren't so cold anymore. Now that she was looking at him properly, she couldn't help but admire his handsome face features and the way his dark blue eyes bore into hers.

Realizing she had not answered his question and that she was just staring at him, Lyra quickly looked away. "I don't know. She went to Lady Lesso's office and never came back."

She waited for him to reply but he didn't. She saw his eyes narrow as he glanced at the big doors of the East entrance which led to the School for Evil.

"The teachers aren't allowed to come, right?" He asked.

"Yeah," Lyra answered, confused at why he was asking these questions.

Colten merely nodded but Lyra could see his eyes showing suspicion and concern.

Feeling awkward now, Lyra turned to Hester and asked, "Have you seen Sophie?"

"That's what I was about to ask you," Hester responded. "Where is she?"

"She never came back from Lesso's," Anadil said, joining in their conversation.

"Maybe Lesso cured her?" Hester suggested.

"Or maybe the symptoms got worse! Suppose she attacks Tedros!" Anadil said worriedly.

"She better not," Lyra said with a frown. She didn't work so hard to save Tedros for nothing.

That's when Lyra saw Tedros enter from the West Entrance, his face unimpressed. He was limping and though he was dressed up for the occasion, his face was covered with scratches.
