"Special delivery!" I heard Des exclaim as she came back with a bag of food. She paused instantly when she saw me. "Um... Petite, why are you not Tempest? And why are you holding your mouth?"
"Shh, shh, shh!" I placed a finger against my lips before covering my face and changing back to Tempest. "Des!" I whisper-yelled.
She jogged over to me, placing the bag of food on my lap. "What's happened? Where's Jack?"
It's been a few minutes now, and he still hasn't come back from supposedly getting me water.
"He kissed me!" I whispered to my best friend, looking around her to see if he was coming.
Des smiled at me as she asked, "Really? Did you like it?"
"Des, stop!" I smacked her arm as she raised her eyebrows hysterically. "This is serious. What am I supposed to do?"
"So you did like it." She laughed at me as I glared at her.
"Even if I did," I spoke slowly. "That's neither here nor there."
"Alright, cherie." She smirked. "Well, you either ignore it, or you talk about it. There's really not much else you can do. I mean, the deed is done."
I half-frowned as I said, "I hate that you're so logical sometimes."
She shrugged off my comment before pushing the bag of food towards me. "Eat. You need more strength if you want to heal faster." Her eyes examined me swiftly. "You seem to be healing up nicely."
"Is that another one of your gifts?" I asked with smiled.
"Kind of." She smirked at me.
"Right..." I nodded, reaching for the burger she brought me. "The soul thing."
"Mmm." She smiled in this nonchalant way as she watched me devour my cheeseburger.
"Oh, my god..." I moaned as I chewed. "This is the best burger in the whole universe!"
"Hey, Des," My heart stopped for a moment at Jack's voice.
He seemed normal as he walked over to us.
Was the kiss really not a big deal for him?
"Jack," Des grinned at me before looking at him. "I was just wondering where you were."
"Just getting a drink for Penn." He held a glass half-filled with water. "Here you go."
"Thanks," I said, taking a sip of it.
"So," he started. "What's our next move here?"
I half-choked on my drink. "W-what do you mean?" I asked hesitantly.
He wants to talk about it now? In front of Des?!?
"I mean, after you eat, what should we do from there?"
"Oh." I mumbled, stuffing as much food in my mouth to stop myself from being too idiotic. "Well, I think I'll rest up for another hour or so. Then, I have to see the Blakes."
"The Blakes?" he inquired.
I nodded. "Yeah, you know them. Elton and Kate Blake. They gave me the material for my costume."
His eyes were wide as I confirmed it was the same professor he's been working side-by-side with.
"I guess I'm wearing the top-secret project you've been working on." I smiled. "Kate gave me the prototype, and I promised to report right back to her as soon as the battle was over."
