you were the sun

atop a flower,

but I didn't wilt

under your constant gaze

because you became

the rain

kissing my petals,

each drop feeling

heavy and soft,

but I didn't drown

because you became

the wind

wrapping around me

like a whispering hug,

carrying light hope

on your wingless back,

but I didn't fall into it-

wait.

I did.

but only

after you left,

along with my breath,

and only then

did my roots die,

my petals rot,

my stem collapse,

only then did I crumble

to ash

and from the ground,

I still hum with memories,

but I'll never

call you back
