"Hello, Clay."
I watch as he quickly turns to me, and he lets out a gasp. He makes sure his face is out of everyone else's potential view before taking off his mask. I notice how tired and disheveled he looks and slightly beat myself up for it. Sure, Clay and I weren't the best of friends, but that doesn't mean that I don't care about his well being. He wraps his arms around me tightly and I hesitantly return the hug. He pulls back and checks me for any injuries. I give Clay a soft smile and pat his head. "I'm fine, Clay. Don't stress about it." He lets out an almost silent sob and hugs me again. I rub his back as he holds me--he's holding me as if I'm going to disappear.
"I thought they'd hurt you, I-...... I thought you might've been held captive." I gave him another soft smile and gently shook my head.
"I wouldn't let them lay as much as a finger on me. Besides--if they did, how would I have sent you that note?" He nods and sniffles. I wipe his eyes and hand him his mask. He smiles softly and puts it back on. He turns to the people around us, and only then do I take note of everyone--Niki, Puffy, Zak, Darryl, Toby, Fundy, Alex, Ghost Schlatt, George, Nick, Punz, Purpled, Ranboo, Corpse, HBomb, and Jack Manifold.
I give all of them a smile and their eyes widen--well, everyone except for Ghost Schlatt and Corpse. Toby, Jack, and Purpled all run over to me and envelop me in a hug. I hug them all back and smile widely. I notice Niki starting to tear up, and Fundy--my stepson (canonically)--starts to walk over to me. "....Mom..?" I smile and excuse myself from the smaller children. I walk over to Fundy, who picks me up and spins me. He lets out shouts of excitement as he spins me, and I just laugh. He eventually puts me down but doesn't let go of my hand. "I missed you...it was lonely without you." I smile and hug him again. I lean over to his ear so only he hears what I'm about to say.
"I'll move back into my old cottage. If you want to live with me, I wouldn't complain." I watch as his eyes light up and I smile. "I'll bring Birch too." He starts to celebrate to himself and runs off to get his things ready. Puffy and Niki come over for a hug as well, which I gladly accept. I shake George and Nick's hands before turning back to Clay. "If I'm not back here by the end of the week, I'll send you my coords privately in chat." He nods and hugs me again.
I wave goodbye to everyone and wink at Zak. He nods and starts watching everyone's movement for me. When I'm out of earshot and sight for everyone, I pull out my communicator. "Sam, I'm on my way back. I have some news for everyone. Expect me in about 15 minutes tops."
"Alright (N/n). I'll get us ready to greet you." I turn the communicator off and turn back to the task at hand. I'd bought myself enough extra time to grab some more sweet berries for Birch. I walk towards the spruce trees and find a lot of bushes. I start to carefully grab the sweet berries and store them inside of my bag. I glance up upon hearing some noise from the distance. I pull out my axe and prepare myself for battle. I take a stance until I notice that the figure is transparent. I slowly put the weapon down before walking towards the figure. Upon noticing the yellow, I let out a silent sigh of relief.
"Hello, Wilbur." He turns to me and offers me a smile. "What are you doing out here?"
"I could ask you the same thing, (N/n)." My eyes widened. Did he know?
"What do you know...?" He sighs and sadly shakes his head.
"When were you going to tell me that you were moving..?" I sigh and fall against a nearby tree.
"I was going to tell you tonight. I'm moving as soon as Thursday." He sighs. "...I was going to ask if you wanted to come with...?" he looks up at me with wide eyes.
"Really...? I don't know if Fundy would want to see me though. He seems mad every time I try to talk to him..." I shake my head and smile at him.
"Now, let's head to the base." He smiles and nods, taking my hand. We begin our short trek to the base and go through my entrance. I smile and set all of my things down in the armory. I let out a sigh and start my walk to the living room. "Hello, you two." I watch as both Sam and Tommy turn to me with wide smiles.
"Welcome home, (Y/n)!" I frown at the home part, and Tommy notices. "What's wrong (N/n)?" I hesitate before being ushered on by Wilbur.
"I'm moving." I watch as everyone, excluding Wilbur, widens their eyes. The room goes dead silent and I shift in awkwardness.
"Wait...when?" I look over at Sam, who looks a little hurt. I sigh and sit down.
"Let me explain. I went to visit Dream today--not because I wanted to, but because he was going on a rampage because of my absence. I got him to calm down, and I realized that I haven't been spending enough time with my stepson. I'm moving back to my old cottage with him to make up for the missed time." Tommy and Sam both nod in understanding.
"Wait, so I'm just keeping Tommy here..?" I pause and think about it. I wondered if it would be safer for Tommy here or there. I nodded my head to Sam--I don't want to risk his safety. Tommy gives me a sad look and I shake my head.
"Tommy, I'm not risking your safety just for you to move with me somewhere else." He frowns but nods. I can't say that I don't feel bad--I do feel bad. I just wanted Tommy to be safe. "I'll cut you a deal if I can come to an agreement with Dream, then you can move in and Sam can have his base to himself again. I'd also have to talk to Fundy about it--you might have to be our next-door neighbor." Tommy's eyes light up and he nods excitedly. Sam lets out a few laughs and shakes his head.
I smile to myself and get up to head to my room. "Well, I've got a few big days of putting things in boxes and bags. I'm going to head to bed. If anyone needs me, I'll probably be packing." They all nod and I hear a chorus of goodbyes. I head up the stairs, Birch at my feet. As soon as I sling the door open, Birch runs inside.
I sigh and look around my room. I have many memories here--some better than others. I think back on all of the journeys I've made--about how far I've come. I let off a soft smile and look at the photo frame sitting on my shelf. I pick it up and wipe the dust off of it. It's a picture of the L'manburg crew after we officially gained our independence. Tommy and Toby were seated at the bottom front, Wilbur was in the middle--with Fundy and Niki on his right, and Jack and me on his left. Wilbur had his arms around me and Fundy, with Fundy giving off a small smile. I found it quite heart-warming as the memories flooded back to me.
*********
It was a nice day outside--the trees weren't changing colors just yet. On a hill, there stood two figures--one much noticeably taller than the other. The tall one had fluffy hair, partially tucked into a beanie. The shorter one had hair that slightly moved with the wind. Though the scene looked sweet, the two were arguing. "Fundy's a big boy now, he doesn't need me to lean on." The shorter person huffed.
"He's still your son Wilbur!! He needs his father there to support him always!! Just because he gets older, that doesn't mean he can depend on himself just yet!!" The taller figure shakes his head. Wilbur turns away from the figure. "Unless you just don't care about any of us anymore." Wilbur snaps his head to the shorter person.
"(Y/n). You know I would never even begin to think that way." The other person, (Y/n) shakes their head and looks downwards. Wilbur's eyes widen. ".....(Y/n).....?" He reaches his hand out to them, but they flinch away.
(Y/n) slowly backs away from Wilbur. Wilbur slowly and cautiously follows them. "Wilbur....you're changing....and that's not a good change..." His expression saddened. Wilbur shook his head and turned away. (Y/n) frowned and started to walk away faster.
A figure that resembled a fox approached Wilbur. "Dad....why's mom upset?" Wilbur sighs and shakes his head.
