For CENTURIES, The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black has been one of the oldest, wealthiest, proudest pure-blooded wizarding families in Great Britain, and therefore one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. Many claims to have a blood connection with the Family, although distant, but no one can match the pride and honour of being an actual member of the oldest and noblest House Black.

"Toujours Pur."

—The family motto, "Always Pure"

The Blacks give great importance to blood purity, deeming Muggles, Squibs and Muggle-borns of inferior lineage. They reserve an even lower position in society to Blood-traitors, despicable pure-bloods who sully the purity of the Family by fraternizing with those who are unworthy.

The only solution, disinherit the one who has allowed himself to make such a wicked choice and blast the stains of dishonour from the Family tapestry.

At least that has happened so far.

In 1989, it was common opinion that the House of Black had died out. The head of the family, Orion Black, died ten years earlier, after unexpectedly obsessively devoting himself to erecting as many protective defences as possible. His wife, Walburga Black, who so ardently loved to remove family members from the family tapestry, had died a few years later in a precarious state of mind.

Their two sons had equally unfortunate fates. The eldest, Sirius Orion Black III, after been disinherited for having familiarized with Muggle-borns, Blood-traitors and Half-breeds, in 1981 was arrested by the Departement of Magical Law Enforcement and sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban for fourteen counts of murder with the Blasting Curse.

Finally, the youngest of the two brothers, Regulus Arcturus Black, is thought to have died in mysterious circumstances in 1979 after joining the Deathearters of The Dark Lord.

And so ends the Black bloodline, a powerful family consumed by the obsession with blood purity. Or so it was thought. Very few were aware that Regulus Black at the tender age of seventeen had a daughter with his fiancée and betrothed wife Corvina Euphraïlde Lestrange.

In the middle of the exceptionally cold night of September 29, 1978, a girl with eyes of liquid silver and with hair darker than a starless night was born. They bestowed her with the name of Betelgeuse Altair Black, and she was the apple of her father's eyes and the joy of her mather's heart, loved like no other.

Everything was perfect for the young couple until the tragedy struck them in the year 1979 when the little heir of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black was only one year old.
